In a world where human rights are under attack, it’s hard to define success. Amnesty International fights for the freedoms of all, for those at risk, for the voices that go unheard. Across continents, we stand together, forging alliances that defy borders, challenging governments that oppress and divide. Success is every step a collective stride. Through seeking justice our equality prevails.

Über uns
Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 10 million people who take injustice personally. We are campaigning for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. We are funded by members and people like you. We are independent of any political ideology, economic interest or religion. No government is beyond scrutiny. No situation is beyond hope. WHAT DOES AMNESTY DO? We investigate and expose the facts, whenever and wherever abuses happen. We lobby governments, and other powerful groups such as companies. Making sure they keep their promises and respect international law. By telling the powerful stories of the people we work with, we mobilize millions of supporters around the world to campaign for change and to stand in defence of activists on the frontline. We support people to claim their rights through education and training.

Every day, people are executed and sentenced to death by the state as punishment for a variety of crimes – sometimes for acts that should not be criminalized. In some countries, it can be for drug-related offences, in others this cruel punishment is reserved for terrorism-related acts and murder. The death penalty is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment. Amnesty International opposes the death penalty in all cases without exception – regardless of who is accused, the nature or circumstances of the crime, guilt or innocence or method of execution. Deputy Director - Communications and External Affairs, Crisis Response Programme, Amnesty International
As we approach the 10-year anniversary of Islamic State's attack on the #Yezidi community in Iraq, new Amnesty International research indicates that an estimated 2,600 Yezidis remain missing today, with many abandoned to indefinite detention in north-east Syria. "The Yezidi community suffered unthinkable harm at the hands of Islamic State," says my colleague Lauren Aarons. "Ten years after IS first launched its attack against the Yezidis, their suffering continues, as thousands remain missing." "Many Yezidis who were mistakenly swept up following the collapse of IS have been languishing in indefinite detention in dire and life-threatening conditions in north-east Syria. They must now be identified, freed and provided with the ongoing support they need." Hundreds of Yezidi women and children are believed to be in Al-Hol detention camp, with some remaining trapped in conditions of captivity, slavery and other abuse by IS affiliates. https://lnkd.in/es3bFg6D
