With less than 100 days until the 16th United Nations Biodiversity Conference with a refreshed and ambitious commitment to biodiversity, it is a crucial moment for nature-based policies.   While COP16 centres around the natural world, its outcomes will have significant impact on the built environment. The industry must control its impact on biodiversity.   🌱Labour party pledges to protect 30% of UK land by 2030. 🐾Additionally, they are seeking to increase species level abundance by at least 10%.   But where does that leave Mace? ☀👋 As the summer draws to a close, it’s time to say goodbye to our 2024 cohort from the 10,000 Black Interns Programme. In June, we welcomed 17 individuals to our summer internship placement. From attending training workshops and visiting our sites, to engaging in hands-on tasks and networking with our industry leaders – the interns have learnt a lot and added huge value along the way. 👏👨🔬Exciting news! We are thrilled to announce the commencement of the enabling works contract for the Vulcan 20-20 project for the UK’s Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). This phase will prepare the site for the extension of the Vulcan laser, ensuring it continues scientific research at the Central Laser Facility (CLF), part of STFC’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratories in Oxfordshire.   🔧The enabling works, include relocating and removing various external and internal services, constructing a specialised concrete test panel, and demolishing the existing Vulcan structure to the ground floor slab level, asbestos removal and the reuse of some steel beams.   💬 Robert Lemming, Managing Director of Public Sector and Life Sciences at Mace Construct, stated: “Commencing the enabling works for Vulcan 20-20 marks a key step in the extension of this UK research facility.
