This week, we're shining the spotlight on Sports Reporter Liam Grace, who has outdone himself with his Wimbledon coverage this month. Between commuting back and forth from Wimbledon, Liam has managed to secure three exclusives for Metro.co.uk — including one from Andy Murray himself. In addition to these exclusives, he also published in-depth analytical features while racing against the clock and spotted details in stories that others missed, allowing Metro to rise above the competition. It's not all glamour though. Liam also vox-popped Andy Murray fans around the Grounds, an experience he described as 'nerve-wracking.' 'You get a lot of people who don’t want to talk to you and you really have to put yourself out there without fear of rejection,' he said. 'Ultimately, it all went to plan and I got some good content for a feature piece I was working on.' A stand-out moment for Liam was meeting Cliff Richard. 'I got a shameless selfie with him because my grandparents are huge fans. He recorded a video message for them, which was a lovely touch,' Liam added. It's been a brilliant whirlwind two weeks for Liam, and we're looking forward to see what's next in store.

Craig Munro became our senior politics reporter three months ago and since then he has covered a snap general election, entered the world of TikTok and hosted Metro’s first-ever Hustings! We caught up with him after the general election to see how he has found the energetic start to his new role... 𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫, 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧? 'I was only picked as the Metro politics person a couple of months ago and I had about a month before the election campaign kicked-off. I didn’t have many opportunities to meet other journalists on the beat and to speak to politicians. It would have been nice to have had a bit more of a run at the election, but I enjoyed it.' 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨’𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐇𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬? 'I was nervous at first but, at the end of the day, it’s the bread and butter of political reporting – ask politicians for their take on certain policies. I really relished the opportunity to have a panel of all the top political parties in the country address your questions.' 'I hope the readers who sent in those questions will feel like they’ve got a better sense of what the parties were offering when they went into the voting booth. But it’s also about showing the readers that we are listening to them and asking the questions they care about to the politicians.' 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞? 'A lot! I contributed to the live blog every day. I also wrote the Alright, Gov column for the Metro newspaper as well as the weekly newsletter. I also put together analysis pieces of all the different day-to-day things that happen. And that’s before I did all the TikTok videos. It all adds up to be quite intense.' 'Our series of fact checking videos have done superbly well. Throughout we’ve been led by the data to get a sense of what the readers want, which is an analysis of policies whilst engaging with our audience.' Make sure to check-out more of Craig's brilliant work [https://lnkd.in/eSCtYKQj] as well as to follow Alright Gov? on TikTok!
