International not-for-profit working to end the water, sanitation and hygiene crisis - for good.
Über uns
WaterAid is an international not-for-profit, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. Since we started in 1981, we’ve remained resolutely focused on tackling these three essentials that transform people’s lives. Without all three, people can’t live dignified, healthy lives. With all three, they can break free from poverty, unleash their potential and change their lives for good. Children grow up healthy and strong, women and men start small businesses, whole communities start to thrive. It sounds normal and it should be. By inspiring people and sparking chain reactions we help deliver lasting change. By working closely with partners internationally and on the ground in some of the toughest places in the world, we have helped millions of people take control of their lives and build better futures. Now we are working to get safe water, decent toilets and good hygiene to everyone, everywhere by 2030. It’s about more than installing taps, toilets, boreholes and wells. To make lasting change happen on a massive scale, we pool knowledge and resources, link policy makers with people on the ground, change attitudes and behaviours, rally support from people and organisations around the world and convince governments to change laws. Together, we will change millions of lives for the better – and change normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. We strive to be an excellent employer and invest in our people to maximise our impact. We provide a competitive benefits package and a tailored learning and development plan for all employees.

What does it mean to be accountable? Every year, WaterAid teams around the world celebrate our values during #MyWaterAidWeek, with accountability chosen as this year’s theme. From global webinars exploring fascinating topics, to running a momo making competition to foster team spirit, each WaterAid office chose to mark the day in their own unique way, bringing colleagues together to inspire, celebrate and learn from each other. While exploring different layers of accountability — whether that's being accountable to ourselves, each other or our supporters — we asked team members to share their accountability pledges with us – here are some of our favourites: “To prioritise my own wellbeing, including my daily lunch walks.” — Madelene, Sweden “Keep the momentum going and make a lasting difference in the lives of communities around us.” — Jabin, Bangladesh “Be more transparent and not hesitate in owning up to my shortcomings.” — Avash, Nepal

What's gender got to do with water? 💦 Well, in the majority of homes that don't have clean water, it's women and girls who are responsible for collecting water. This can often take hours every day, as water is usually far from home. This burden means that there often isn't time for school or work, which holds back women from achieving their potential. When there's no clean water near home, at work or at school, it also makes managing periods difficult - leading to many girls missing school or women unable to work. Together, we can make sure no one is held back by a lack of clean water ✊

Ever thought about what life is like for a sanitation worker? 👇 They play a crucial role in protecting our health and keeping our surroundings clean – emptying septic tanks, unblocking sewers, cleaning public toilets and operating treatment plants. But their work often comes at the cost of their dignity, health, and sometimes their lives. In our WASH Matters newsletter tomorrow, we share the story of Kona, a sanitation worker in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and our work to improve social safety nets for people like her. Subscribe now and make sure you don't miss it. 👉 https://lnkd.in/ehAwgkGH #SanitationWorkers #Sanitation

This week, the UK's International Development Minister, Anneliese Dodds, made two exciting announcements: 1. Britain will restore overseas development spending to 0.7% of economic output when fiscal circumstances allow. 2. The UK will join the Brazilian President’s Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty. We applaud these moves, but we know there's no world free from poverty on a liveable planet without water – as our UK CEO Tim Wainwright has witnessed this week in Madagascar. That's why we're calling on the UK government to lead the world on global water security and place water, sanitation and hygiene at the very heart of the UK’s international development policy. #UKaid #InternationalDevelopment
