Display Host: Interior AIDS Association - The Interior AIDS Association joins in celebrating World AIDS DAY 2020. As the coronavirus pandemic continues to rage through our world, World AIDS Day is an opportunity to remember those we have lost to another pandemic. Forty years into the AIDS pandemic, more than 675,000 lives in the U.S. have been lost to AIDS and more than 1.2 million people live with HIV. As a community, we welcome you to view the virtual Quilt display. The panels here represent some of the Alaskans who have died from HIV. On World AIDS Day, we look back with sadness at the loss of family, friends and neighbors, and we join together in commitment to our neighbors living with HIV, so that they may realize full, productive lives, and that, one day soon, we can celebrate the end of the pandemic.

Display Host: Alaskan AIDS Assistance Association - Many blocks of the AIDS Quilt have traveled to Alaska as part of museum exhibitions and World AIDS Day commemoration events.  In 2015, 9 blocks of the Quilt were on display at the Anchorage Museum as part of an exhibition with the Four A's (Alaskan AIDS Assistance Association). Several of the panels making up the those blocks commemorated the lives of Alaskans who have died from the disease. Those names include Doug Olsen, Brian Buczak, Jr. Lamar, Dennis Long, Palmer McCarter, Jack Haygood, Robert J. Matheson. Panels feature the iconic yellow stars from Alaska's state flag, along with Alaskan symbols like mountains, Native imagery, the Pipeline, and fur, which are sewn into the various panels. Panels also included personal objects and items from the life remembered such as the ubiquitous insulated Carhartts, photographs, merit badges, and messages from friends and loved ones.
