Angie Hendershot currently anchors ABC12 News at Five, Six and Eleven.
Angie Hendershot is a two-time National Edward R. Murrow winning reporter and an Emmy winning anchor and reporter who has been part of the ABC12 news team for 25 years.
Angie grew up in Davison and says it is a dream come true to return to her hometown as a journalist at the station she grew up watching. She did her undergraduate studies at Central Michigan University -- double majoring in political science and broadcasting. She also holds a master's degree in broadcast journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.
Prior to joining the ABC12 news team as a general assignment reporter, Angie worked the weekend anchor desk at WLNS-TV in Lansing, Mich.
Angie was recognized in 2020 with the Michigan Emmy award for best news anchor. In 2019, she won her second national Edward R. Murrow Award in the Hard News category for her coverage of the families impacted by the Flint Water Crisis. Her first national Edward R. Murrow Award was also for hard news coverage for her report on Baby Court – a program in Genesee County designed to put broken families back together. The series also won two Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, two Emmy awards, the American Judicature Society's Toni House Journalism Award and the Wade H. McCree Jr. Award for the advancement of justice.
Angie has won 10 Emmys and numerous Associated Press and MAB awards during her time at ABC12, including an Emmy and Regional Murrow award for her investigation into the child abuse death of 4-year-old Dominick Calhoun.
In 2019, Angie received the National Association of Broadcasters Service to Community Award for co-founding the Flint Diaper Bank, which distributes more than 1 million diapers annually to the community. She was also inducted into the Genesee Regional Women's Hall of Fame for her community service work.
She is currently a member of the Voices for Children Board of Directors – an organization that works to prevent child abuse and help survivors become children again. She also serves as a board member for the Shelter of Flint.
Angie and her husband live in Genesee County with their two sons.
