Jawon Williams faces six new charges, including open murder

SAGINAW TWP., (WJRT) - A teenager was formally arraigned in connection with Saginaw Township's deadly shooting Wednesday night.

Statements read in court indicate the teen was in trouble for shooting a firearm at a high school earlier this year.

He was on probation when this week's shooting happened.

15 year old Jawon Williams was on probation for fleeing and eluding police stemming from an incident in February.

And that's on top of the fact that the Saginaw Township home Williams was living in was hit with a search warrant in May related to a multi-county stolen car ring.

"Count one, homicide, open murder, life or any term of years," Saginaw County District Court Judge Terry Clark read the most serious charge Jawon Williams faces.

The 15 year old Williams is facing six criminal charges in all in the aftermath of that deadly shooting on Mackinaw Road in Saginaw Township Wednesday night.

Investigators believe it was Williams who opened fire on a car that came to his home, killing 24 year old Dennis Mayes and injuring two other teenagers.

At least four bullets went into a nearby home, nearly hitting the three people inside the house.

Williams' attorney, Steve Fenner says Williams fired the weapon in self defense.

Judge Terry Clark read the bond recommendation from the prosecutor's office.

"Defendant utilized a high powered assault rifle to fire twenty rounds at three victims, injuring two and killing one. The violent behavior displayed by defendant in this instance demonstrates he is a significant danger to the public," Clark read.

Its believed to be the second violent incident involving Williams this year.

It was back in February when a gunshot was fired outside of Saginaw High School during a fight.  There were no injuries.

Police chased a car with the suspected shooter, who was Williams, and he was eventually arrested. He was convicted of fleeing and eluding police in juvenile court in April and was on probation.

In May, at the same home where Wednesday's shooting occurred, police conducted a search warrant in regards to a multi-county stolen car ring. There were no arrests.

Judge Clark denied bond for Williams who will remain in custody at the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center.
