Loose Women's Denise Welch in tears as she's reunited with nurse who saved son's life
Former Coronation Street star Denise Welch has been left in tears after she was reunited with the nurse who saved her son's life when he was a baby more than 20 years ago
Former Coronation Street actress Denise Welch has taken to Instagram with a touching post, revisiting the hospital where her son Louis received care as an infant. The star, renowned for her spirited stints on Loose Women, displayed a tender moment during her visit to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool.
Denise and her son were there at the invitation of the hospital's fundraising team to witness the progress of a new 22-bed neonatal ward scheduled to open next October, which will also offer accommodation for parents and siblings.
In an emotional video, Denise is seen fighting back tears, recounting: "We're at Alder Hey Hospital and I am already getting emotional. We are in the neonatal unit, and a lot of you know that Louis when he was young, had Hirschsprung Disease.
"He's now a fit and healthy 23-year-old, and we've come back to the unit that looked after him and we've just bumped into Anne, who was one of the nurses that cared for him 23 years ago."
Overwhelmed with emotion, she added: "I owe my kid's life to this hospital so it's just lovely to come back and to see Anne is just so special because they are the most wonderful team of people."

She concluded with praise for the NHS staff: "It's wonderful to be in an NHS hospital and see such positive faces and positive stories for once. It's fantastic."
In a heartfelt post, Denise revealed that her son Louis was born with Hirschsprung Disease, a life-threatening condition affecting the bowel.
She shared: "Before 1948 he wouldn't have survived. Thankfully Louis was treated at the wonderful Alder Hey hospital where they saved his life with surgery at age 6 weeks."
She continued to detail the critical moments of Louis's health battles: "At 20 months he was rushed back there and went straight to the top of the emergency surgery list.
"Mother's instinct had kicked in and they told me that 2 hours later it would have been a different story as he had adhesions which can be devastating.
"Again, the brilliant team operated for 5 hours and the care he received by them and the neo-natal team I will never ever forget."
