A Place in the Sun star Lucy Alexander has admitted that she can become emotional when it comes to making offers on the Channel 4 property show. The property expert admitted she has "cried" with buyers on many occasions.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk she was pondering the "cheeky offers" which are a staple of the show when she made the revelation. "I think a cheeky offer as long as it’s backed up with 'a good reason why' is totally acceptable - it makes it more exciting and well you can always go up!!

"I love it so much when my house hunters get a bargain. It’s such a thrill as I never know what the owners will say - when I tell them the good news it’s the best part of my job.

"It’s all very genuine and we have all sat and cried on many occasions. I spend a whole week away with the couple and we all become very close.

"They are friends by the end of the week and hopefully I’ve found them a dream home. It’s life-changing [for them] and I feel so blessed to have been part of their journey," she said speaking from Spain.

A Place in the Sun is just the latest string in Lucy's property show presenting bow after spending 13 years on BBC's popular daytime show Homes Under The Hammer. While it is a very different show Lucy is relishing the new challenge.

"Moving from Homes Under The Hammer to A Place in the Sun was all perfectly timed," the mum of two said. "Hammer allowed me to film three days a week. My kids were younger and I could also stay at home and still do school drop-offs and homework as I loved my time with them [when they were younger].

"Then with the Covid gap and getting A Place in the Sun it meant my fam were older and more independent. The kids now have their own lives and careers and prob prefer me going away and now and encourage my travels," she admitted.

Lucy's children are both forging high-profile careers in their own rights. Her daughter Kitty Castledine is currently starring as Penny Branning in EastEnders. Meanwhile, her son Leo Castledine is a midfielder for Chelsea.

"They do laugh though and think I'm going to come home one day with a villa in Spain that I thought was a steal," Lucy admits. "I flick through my camera roll showing them all the bargains and where I've been that week.

"They love it all and let me bang on about the amazing crew and nice couples and showing them sunsets and beautiful locations.[I think they] secretly want me to invest abroad again. We had a small flat in Ville Franche in Nice for years.

"I still pinch myself that I've had two of the most long-running amazing daytime TV telly jobs - programmes that viewers love and firm favourites in the schedules.
"I'm very grateful. I wish my mum Kay was alive [to see it]. She loved A Place in the Sun and EastEnders," she says referring to daughter Kitty's job.
A Place in the Sun is on Channel 4 daily at 4pm.
