This year, the nominees for best presenter included Susanna Reid, Matt Chorley from BBC Radio 5, Eamonn Holmes, and Nigel Farage. Farage and Holmes both host programs on GB News.

When Nigel was announced as the winner, he received a mix of applause, whistles, and boos.

On stage, he mentioned the success of GB News and expressed gratitude to the viewers and listeners.

He also acknowledged his work on another TV company and his participation in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here.

“Thank you! It’s like the crowd are wrestling a bit,” he said on stage as he picked up his award.

“I notice much less hostility than we had last year. And think about it – GB News Breakfast has won, the Camilla Tominey interview with Alastair Stewart has won, and I’ve won for the second year in a row, news presenter of the year.

“And that says to you that GB News is now here to stay as a mainstream broadcaster in this country, and thank goodness for that.”

As the boos continued in the room, Nigel said: “Well, no, those that boo clearly don’t like competition.

“A massive thank you to our viewers and our listeners. But I also want to say a big shoutout because I did much work for another TV company. After all, I spent some time in the jungle on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

“And Fred Sirieix, I’ve seen up here winning prizes. Fred and I will never agree, but we worked well in the camp. There are many other campmates here; I’m A Celebrity, a great show; I loved doing it.

“Sadly, my TV career’s been somewhat curtailed because I have another mission on the 4th of July. Thank you, everybody, you’ll be seeing more of me!”

After his surprise win, Susanna seemingly questioned the result by tweeting her congratulations to the winner.

Following Nigel’s win, Susanna aimed at him for clinching the victory over her, seemingly questioning the result as she tweeted: "Congratulations go to ….. @Nigel_Farage".

Nigel stands for the political party Reform UK in the upcoming General Election, making it his eighth bid to become a British MP.

His participation in I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here last year sparked controversy, especially after reports emerged that ITV paid £1.5 million to take part.

Additionally, Nigel won the TRIC award for best news presenter last year, where he was also booed.
