Bestselling author, blogger and Instagram influencer Lynsey Crombie, TV's cleaning expert, has revealed to the Express her cut pricing cleaning tip for a sparkling home and it is also good for the environment.

With their sweet scent and antiseptic properties, lemons are great for cleaning. Their citric acid breaks down grease, grim and mineral deposits.

Plus, the citric acid acts as a natural bleach so is great to lift and remove stains. They also have natural antibacterial and antifungal properties.

The Queen of Clean discovered the brilliant hack 16 years ago and has not looked back since.

She said: “When I ran my cleaning business 16 years ago I had a contract in an old peoples home and one of the ladies there taught me how to clean her sink with lemons and bicarb. I then went away, did some research and have never looked back.

“Buy lemons from the supermarket towards the end of the day when they are going off. Or buy a bottle of neat lemon juice from the baking aisle. If you heat and roll your lemon before squeezing, you will get more juice from it.

“To clean with a lemon simply cut it in half, remove the pips and rub over a surface or for a deeper clean add a sprinkling of bicarb of soda and use a really abrasive scrubber which works so well on shower screens.

“You can also add the juice of a lemon to white vinegar to make up a multi-purpose everyday spray.”

Microwave's are great household object to clean with lemons. "Put a few lemon halves in a bowl of clean cold water in the microwave and then put the microwave on full power for five minutes. The lemon will release the grease which will make it really easy to wipe off with a cloth", said Lynsey.

To remove rust mix lemon with salt and make a paste, apply this paste to the rust and scrub. Leave for a few minutes and rinse with warm water.

Stainless steel, composite sinks, wooden chopping boards, porcelain baths and bathroom sinks as well as granite, marble, and laminate are just some of the surfaces that you can clean with a lemon.
