Temperatures are set to plummet to freezing as the UK is hit with a big chill.

Shocking new weather maps reveal that mercury is set to fall across the country - just as Brits perhaps hoped that the warmer weather stuck.

The predictions from WXCharts.com show that Scotland will plunge more deeply into the freezer - with a low of forecast of just OC around Glenelg on Wednesday, June 5

But the chilly weather certainly isn’t limited to Scotland, which struggles to get over 2C and 3C in more central areas such as around Stirling. It’ll also be around 2C in the Yorkshire Dales area.

Further south around London won’t fare that much better - with temperatures of around 5C predicted.

On the south coast of England, however, there's a temperature of 9C predicted and a high of 13C just off the Isle of Wight.

Jim Dale, founder and senior meteorological consultant at British Weather Services agreed with the chilly weather forecast.

He said: “Cold it will be!

“The polar front will have edged south and Scotland in particular will find itself in unusually chilly air by Wednesday.

“The start and end of the day could well net zero within the glens of the Highlands and Grampian.”

The Met Office has also made its predictions for the conditions between Wednesday and Friday - warning of “chilly nights”.

It said: “Sunshine and showers through this period across the north of the UK.

“Drier in the south, though the risk of some showers.”

The forecast added: “Feeling rather cool, with some chilly nights. Breezy.”

Its longer range forecast covers from Saturday, June 8 until Monday, June 17 - and it warns that it’s “rather cool at the start of the period.”

It says: “Blustery showers continuing across the north of the country over the weekend, most frequent in the northwest, but may tend to ease compared to preceding days.

“Showers possible across southern areas but often dry with variable cloud and sunny spells.

“Likely remaining changeable across the north through following week and into mid-June with showers or longer spells of rain at times but also some drier interludes.

“Whilst showers remain possible in the south, there should continue to be a good deal of dry weather here. Small chance of a more widely settled spell developing for a time next week.

“Rather cool at the start of the period, temperatures probably slowly recovering back to around average with an increasing chance of some warmer spells, especially across the south.”
