Paranoid Vladimir Putin is wearing a bulletproof vest at all public events, insiders have claimed, with fears of an assassination attempt against him seemingly exploding.

The Russian president already has a special team to carefully check his meals for poison. He also takes personal chefs and groceries with him on various trips, according to Newsweek.

As the war in Ukraine intensified, last year Putin had his security significantly beefed up on the recommendation of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Presidential Security Service (SBP), as reported by The Moscow Times.

But in further evidence the Kremlin may be fearful of Putin being killed, the intelligence services' advice is for Putin always to wear a bulletproof vest, two Russian officials and a source close to the Kremlin have claimed.

He began wearing body armour as far back as last year, one official who has seen him in person during several public events told the outlet.

On May 9, while attending the Victory Day parade in Moscow, Putin was "clearly wearing concealed body armor" under his coat, according to one of the Russian officials.

Jade Miller, an independent British hostile environment and high-risk security consultant, studied footage of Putin during the annual parade, telling The Moscow Times his shoulders appeared "rather wide and square" and that it looked like he was "walking in a rather rigid manner".

She concluded: "In my professional opinion, Putin is wearing some form of ballistic protection during his time attending the parade."

Last month, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky survived another assassination plot after Kyiv's security service took down a network of Russian operatives they said planned to kill him with a drone.

Zelensky has previously been targeted by Russia and according to the SBU, the fresh plot aimed to kill "other representatives of the country's top military and political leadership."

They claimed the activities of those involved in the attempt were overseen by the FSB, Russia's Federal Security Service, who facilitated the leaking of information to the Kremlin.

In November 2023, Zelensky revealed there had been "five or six" attempts on his life by Russia, all of which were foiled by his security service.
