Mark Labbett found himself struggling in the final chase in the latest installment of the ITV quiz show.
The Chase: Mark Labbett loses in final round as contestants snag £25K
The Chase star Mark "The Beast" Labbett suffered a humiliating defeat despite he and host Bradley Walsh believing he could easily catch a team's score of 21 on the final chase. Theatre Director Oscar, 35, from London, Liz, 68, a Funeral Director from Cardiff, Trish,57, who is a retired professor from Cambridgeshire and Chris, 27, a Customer Success Manager from Liverpool had played cautiously throughout the ITV game.
Although Mark had made them some huge high offers, including a massive £102,000 to final player Chris, they all took the middle amount which they had earned on their cash builder. They had accumulated £25,000 by the final chase and had a full house of players after none were eliminated.
While they managed to score 21 Bradley wasn't hopeful it was enough to beat The Beast. "I think we're two [questions] short. But the speed was very good," he observed.
Mark was feeling confident about winning: "I'm loving this situation because if you win with a 21 you absolutely deserve to win. If I catch you, boy am I going to celebrate. So either way it's a result," he laughed.
Unfortunately, the questions were not on his side and he missed several answers giving the team six opportunities to push him back, five of which they succeeded in.
As they realised they had won a member of the team could be heard exclaiming: "I can't believe it!" The prize pot meant they took away an impressive £6,250 each.
Viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to comment on The Beast's unusually below-par performance. @mary_pippin1 observed: "The Beast has his wheels coming off #thechase."
