Wimbledon finalist claims he romped with 2,500 women before settling down with wife

Two-time Wimbledon finalist Ilie Nastase was a monster on the tennis court and a serial romper between the sheets, according to his claims.

Tennis icon Ilie Nastase has always been very open about his playboy ways - and once revealed he bedded 2,500 women before settling down with his wife. The former World No.1 enjoyed an illustrious career on the court, winning the US Open and French Open in consecutive years while reaching back-to-back Wimbledon finals in 1972 and 1973.

The sporting prowess of the Romanian may not even compare to his romping ways as the 77-year-old previously opened up on the mind-boggling number of women he'd slept with in his autobiography. He later backtracked on the unfathomable number of trysts he claimed to have had.

After the release of his book, Nastate, who earned over $2million in his 16-year career, told the Daily Mail: "I like women. I love women. It is normal to love a woman. No, no, no [2,500 women]! It wasn't that many. It was exaggerated for my autobiography. They wanted a big number - to make it sell better".

While he suggested that the 2,500 figure was an exaggeration, his latest claim is still a huge figure, with the tennis star adding he didn't keep count. He said: "I don't know - 300, 400? I never added them up - it didn't feel right.

"How could I remember? Anyway, what does it matter - 2,500 or 500, they're not going to give me a medal, are they? And there were a lot of misses. I didn't score. Sometimes I'm very tired because I have to play tennis. And a lot of people turn me down!"

Nastase's legendary reputation between the sheets saw him get honoured by Maxim who named him number 6 on their "Living Sex Legends". At the time of his revelation, the Romanian was on his third marriage to model Amalia Teodosescu who when hearing of her then-husband's claim allegedly quipped that "she was happy to have conquered such a man".

The pair have since parted ways back in 2010 after six years of marriage but that hasn't stopped Nastase from becoming disillusioned with matrimony as he's gotten hitched twice after that - first to Romanian fashion model Brigitte Sfat in 2013.

Their nuptials ended in 2018 as Nastase got married again just a year later, this time to Ioana Simion - who is 30 years his junior - as the tennis great once again publicly opened up about his bedroom proclivities where he claimed he was a fan of doubles behind closed doors.

"Oh yes! I didn't make it to three, unfortunately - my maximum was two. I usually like to play one-on-one, but if that situation should happen, you don't want to turn it down. Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm not stupid!"

Nastase will surely be a keen viewer in Sunday's Wimbledon men's final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic in what is a rematch of last year's thrilling clash, which saw the Spaniard claim his maiden title at the All England club.
