The Michigan House of Representatives employs both full-time and part-time employees. Employees of the House of Representatives are Legislative employees who are excluded from the classified system of civil service employment.

The House of Representatives is committed to providing the tools and support necessary to foster a safe and healthy work environment for everyone. The House takes workplace harassment seriously. In 2018, a bipartisan work group reviewed the House’s harassment policy and training materials resulting in recommendations, many of which were implemented to strengthen our commitment.

Minimum Qualifications

Description

The Michigan House of Representatives is currently looking to fill multiple part-time Page positions in Lansing. We are seeking responsible and professional individuals to perform the following duties: 

Assist House Committee Clerks with committee meetings by:

Preparing committee rooms and lobby area for daily use 

Distributing amendments and public testimony to members 

Operating Zoom for remote participants as needed

Distribute documents in the House Chamber to Representatives during House Session 

Assist administrative staff with office tasks as assigned

Selected candidates will be working in a nonpartisan capacity for the Clerk of the House and assisting the House Committee Clerks and House Sergeant at Arms police department.

Pay: $16/hour, up to 20 hours per week

Schedule: The position will begin with an afternoon schedule during the fall with more shift opportunities becoming available later in the internship.

Immediate opening:
11:00am – 5:00pm, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays 

Starting January 7, 2025:
8:00am – 2:00pm, Tuesday – Thursday
11:00am – 5:00pm, Tuesday – Thursday

Or some combination of either.

This is a part-time position in the Lansing office of State Representative Ranjeev Puri. Intern will have the opportunity to assist the Member and their staff in general office operations including constituent relations, communications, and monitoring legislation. Selected candidates will gain valuable hands-on office legislative experience in a fast-paced environment. Hours are negotiable, 15-20 hours/week preferred. If applicable, this internship can be used to fulfill credit requirements. 

Example of Duties:

Aids in research and implementation of various communications efforts, such as e-newsletters, mailers, op-eds.

Assists with digital media, (i.e. social media content, drafting posts, creating graphics).

Assists with constituent services (i.e. constituent letters and casework).

Aids the office by tracking bills and drafting messaging related to the legislative session.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be a college student, veteran, or participant in a job entry program. Strong applicants will have a positive attitude, previous office experience including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, telephone skills, and writing skills. Knowledge of the Legislature is desired but not required. Applicants should have a writing sample and references available upon request.

Preferred Experience:
Preferred applicants will have experience and/or interest in public relations, social media strategy, digital outreach, marketing, communications, and a genuine interest in the legislative process. Past experience with Canva or Photoshop, or other digital/graphic/design platforms is a major plus.

Paid intern work schedules are flexible. In-person work generally takes place Tuesday-Thursday when the House is in session. Option for hybrid schedule.

Pay: $15/hr with up to 20 hrs/week
