📣AJSOCAL and RAND are proud to release a collaborative research report and resource developed for community-based organizations (CBOs) to address racism-related challenges faced by Asian American community members. Due to the alarming rise in anti-Asian hate and discrimination since the COVID-19 pandemic, both RAND and AJSOCAL were moved to examine how Asian American community members can access help when they need it and how to equip community organizations to address community members’ needs when they experience an act of hate or discrimination. AJSOCAL, RAND, and community partners in Los Angeles and New York collaborated to better understand the scope of hate incidents across different Asian American demographic groups, to assess the resources necessary to counteract these incidents, and to identify primary methods of outreach and engagement to reach community members. 🧰The toolkit is an evidence-informed resource derived from discussions with Asian American organizations in Los Angeles and New York City, including AJSOCAL, and a 2023-2024 survey completed by more than 800 community members in both cities. The community survey aimed to provide CBOs with important insights to enhance outreach and support strategies. 📰The research report provides an in-depth analysis of the LA and NYC community survey findings, highlighting the urgent need for culturally and linguistically tailored strategies to effectively reach Asian Americans across various immigrant generations and age groups with information about anti-hate resources at CBOs. 🌟 Thank You for Making AJSOCAL Summer Service 2024 a Success! 🌟 On August 15, our DTLA office was buzzing with the energy of volunteers, staff, and partners who came together to make a difference. We successfully prepared 1,000 outreach kits for low-income API immigrant community members and 200 SAFE court kits to support survivors of domestic violence. We also got a head start on the holiday season by preparing 1,000 Lunar New Year red envelopes! A special shoutout to the amazing teams from Amazon Web Services (AWS), Cathay Bank, East West Bank, Health Net, Microsoft, SoCalGas, U.S. Bank, UBS, UPS, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, and Yang Law Offices for their incredible support! As we look forward to next year’s event, we carry with us the memories of a day filled with hard work, connection, and the joy of giving back. Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California was part of the Monterey Park Resource Fair this past Saturday. It was a productive event assisting our community in free vaccines, social services, and distribution of food. Thank you everyone who made it there. Today, we remember Joseph Ileto. 🕊️ 25 years ago, Joseph Ileto was a Filipino American postal carrier who was shot and killed by an avowed white supremacist in 1999, shortly after the white supremacist shot five people at a Jewish community center in Los Angeles. AJSOCAL, along with Filipino community groups, assisted the Ileto family with emotional, financial, and legal needs. AJSOCAL also worked with the Ileto family as they continued to publicly speak out across the country on the need for anti-hate crime legislation, gun control laws, and resources to address race relations against racial minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those of diverse religious backgrounds since the day their son and brother was killed because of his race. #RememberJosephIleto #StopHateCrimes #RaceRelations #FilipinoAmerican #AntiHateLegislation #DiverseReligions #LGBTQCommunity #SocialJusticeAdvocacy #AJSOCAL
