    "Looking good, taking supplements and taking part in the latest health fads won't guarantee wellness. Young people need to take a more proactive and holistic approach to their health care, which includes seeing your primary physician regularly for recommended screenings, exams and preventive care,” says board-certified family medicine physician and YouTube star "Doctor Mike" Varshavski. Mikhail Varshavski has joined forces with Aflac’s Wellness Matters initiative to help young people take charge of their health. The second annual Aflac Wellness Matters Survey revealed in spite of significant worrying about their mental and physical health and checkups, 84% of millennials and 81% of Gen Z put off a health checkup or important screenings beyond the recommended time frame. Having regular wellness checkups and screenings can help identify illness early and possibly help reduce long-term health costs.     In the spirit of the Olympic Games, which celebrate excellence and dedication in sports, Aflac is proud to support our own Olympian Dawn Staley.   Concerned by the subpar treatment of women's basketball teams at the November 2022 Women’s Las Vegas Invitational, where a player suffered a head injury and laid on the floor for 45 minutes before EMTs arrived, Aflac decided to shift funds from the Men’s March Madness Tournament and pledged to boost support for the Women’s March Madness Tournament instead.    After announcing this pivot and a new partnership with Coach Dawn Staley in December 2022, dubbed the “Parquet Pivot,” Aflac focused its 2023 efforts on bringing that commitment to life by parlaying its March Madness support into a larger movement. Aflac created “Dawn’s List” to educate college basketball fans about disparities between the men’s and women’s games and its disproportionate impact on women. Aflac teamed up with Coach Dawn Staley, a strong advocate for equality in women's athletics, and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to foster a powerful and timely conversation with the sole purpose of shining a light on the inequities in college basketball.   We are thrilled to announce that Aflac’s Parquet Pivot was selected as the 2024 ANA In-House Excellence Awards winner in the Big Idea category, and also received the significant SeeHer In-House GEM Award, which recognizes excellence in the accurate and authentic portrayal of women and girls in B2B marketing and advertising.
