America SCORES Bay Area empowers students in urban communities using soccer, writing, creative expression, and service-learning. With teamwork as the unifying value, America SCORES Bay Area inspires youth to lead healthy lifestyles, be engaged students, and become agents of change in their communities. Through our teamwork-based approach, students develop literacy skills through creative writing workshops; improve fitness and well being through soccer activities and nutrition education; and become vital and engaged members of their communities by addressing neighborhood concerns through student-created service projects. For more info about our programs and our poet-athletes, please visit our website at www.americascoresbayarea.org.

Thank you to The Olympic Club Foundation for inviting us to be part of their 8th Annual Fight Night for Charity! Our Poet-Athlete superstar Crissler kicked-off the event with a reading of her poem, “The Beautiful Game,” which brought the audience of 400 guests to their feet in thunderous applause. The event raised $1 million dollars for youth sports programming! #soccer #poetry #youthsports

SCORES staff from all across the Bay Area gathered together in Milpitas for an inspiring and motivating weekend at our annual SCORES Con retreat! The two-day event provided our staff the opportunity to collaborate on our shared goal of nurturing the confidence and unique voices of our Poet-Athletes through high-quality programming and mentorship. We were honored to be joined by two amazing keynote speakers who helped us kick-off the weekend: EVELINA CABRERA, an Argentinian soccer coach, activist, and SCORES board member who promotes equality and education through sports; and Emmanuel Padilla, M.A., fellow board member and inaugural director of the Latinx Student Center at San Francisco State University. Throughout the remainder of the retreat, our staff participated in workshops, training sessions, and discussions that left us feeling re-energized for the school year ahead. Stay tuned for more highlights from SCORES Con over the next week!

“Keep going and be vocal about how you feel and trust your gut and what you want,” says Ale Labrada, one of our SCORES Program Managers in San Francisco’s Crocker-Amazon region. As we kick off the new school year, get inspired by Ale as she shares her journey as a first-generation student from Marin County, her transition from a career in healthcare to joining SCORES, her passion for reading, and her approach to fostering a positive and nurturing environment for our poet-athletes in our latest "5 Questions With" blog post: https://lnkd.in/gJ8AgDGx

The values of SCORES and Webcor served as guiding principles. SCORES Core values - Commitment, Leadership, Sportsmanship, and Teamwork; Webcor Core values - Bold, Community, Craft, Innovate, and Trust. We acknowledge and value the interns' dedication and teamwork. Webcor, we deeply appreciate and take pride in our partnership with you! #WebcorInterns #SCORESYouth #TeamBuilding #CommunityEngagement #YouthDevelopment

Bands of roving nine- and ten-year-olds campaigning for “Bees for Trees”? Running a Kindness Carnival, speaking out about bullying, picking up trash, raising funds for the humane society and women’s shelters, creating homeless hygiene kits, and painting public picnic tables? A mirage? Or the real deal? Check out our latest blog post to learn more about our service learning programming: https://lnkd.in/dFn5WJqX

On Tuesday, July 16, Sixth Street employees had an enriching day with the girls of SCORES Selecta Camp at Crocker Amazon Soccer Field in San Francisco! The Sixth Street volunteers and campers were organized into three groups and engaged in various activities including relay races, tic-tac-toe, mini Jeopardy, and soccer games. SELECTA camps provide tailored programming for girls, addressing their unique needs and concerns. This personalized support encourages players on girls-only teams to assume leadership roles, prolong their involvement, and recruit female classmates to join SCORES. We deeply appreciate the dedication of Sixth Street volunteers in bringing joy to SCORES youth. Our partnership with Sixth Street is invaluable.
