Our Chief Digital and Information Officer, Jason Joseph, is co-chairing and presenting at this year's Tech Week Grand Rapids (Sept. 16 - 21). Jason will be leading the discussion around the transformative impact of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in health care.

Courtney Denslow's energy and nursing experience in critical care made her a good fit for the fast-paced pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. But after returning to work after having her first baby, she realized something was off. This scary and unfamiliar feeling, Courtney realized, was the result of postpartum anxiety, depression and OCD. Courtney's leaders recognized that she needed support and quickly connected her with critical mental health resources. Later, they helped her find a new position at Corewell Health where she could thrive. "Part of being a good leader is creating an environment where people can care for their own well-being and bring their best selves to work," said nurse manager, Mary Carmichael. “If I didn’t have the support from the leaders and team, I do not know where I would be. I think Mary saved my life… Mary, during the toughest part of my life, has been incredible to me and my family,” explained Courtney. “She’s not just helping me. She’s helping my husband and daughter, Reese, too.”

Leah Voigt, Corewell Health's Chief Compliance Officer, shared her expertise on the complexities and risks of AI in health care. In the discussion, she emphasized the importance of robust policies and procedures to guide AI applications, ensuring they enhance patient care while maintaining compliance and ethical standards.

Team members involved in our one epic ecosystem project in Southeast Michigan had the opportunity to attend a United Shore Professional Baseball League game with their families and colleagues. The evening included a reserved patio area to watch the game, all you can eat BBQ and one team member had the opportunity to throw out the first pitch! “Super users attending this event were nominated by leaders for shining during our project to unite our electronic health record and policies,” said Ann Wiersum, Super User Coordinator. “They’re experts in their role, eager to help, proactive and excellent problem solvers. We thank all of them for supporting their peers during this monumental project.”

Our teams take the extra moment to offer comfort and security when it's needed most - like a nurse who helped a child during an overwhelming visit to the ER by introducing him to his new friends – our care team.
