Graduate Assistant at UGA | Journalist

I’m still pinching myself at the fact that I recently wrapped up an internship on the publishing desk at The Wall Street Journal. As the summer wraps up, I want to thank everyone at the Dow Jones News Fund and WSJ who made my summer so wonderful. The weeklong DJNF editing training in Austin, Texas, prepared me to go off to NYC and connected me with people who became genuine friends. At the Journal, the entire publishing desk — especially my boss, Lora Western — welcomed me and generously answered my (many) questions, from WSJ style to insider tips about where to go in New York on the weekends. I was a first-round editor on more than 30 stories, coordinating with the extremely talented reporters and editors across the newsroom to make sure each piece lived up to the Journal’s ambitious standards for factual correctness, style and clarity. A true highlight of the summer was working on the live blog after Evan was released — I will never forget being a small part of the incredible newsroom effort and atmosphere that day. If I named every person who made this summer wonderful this post would be far too long, but I do want to thank my mentor, Caitlin Ostroff. She is an incredibly supportive, talented and genuinely kind person. I owe her a lot. Michelle Higgins spent countless hours coordinating our internship program and trainings on the history of WSJ, fact-checking, finding stories, video journalism and more — thank you. I’m now back in Athens for my final year of my master’s program in journalism. This year I am a TA in the inimitable Keith Herndon, Ph.D.’s JOUR 3030 class, and I’m looking forward to soaking up the rest of my time in the Classic City.

2024 Wall Street Journal Audio & Podcast Intern | 2023 KMUW Korva Coleman Diversity in Journalism Intern

It's hard to believe I spent my summer with the amazing audio desk at The Wall Street Journal. First things first. I want to thank Aisha Al-Muslim and Scott Saloway for giving me the opportunity to join their team. It was incredible learning from the best and giving back to the group who was kind enough to welcome me. For ten weeks I rotated through different podcasts in the WSJ network: What's News PM, Tech News Briefing and Your Money Briefing. Each show had its own production challenges that were a joy to face. Speaking of challenges, I did something new to me: an audio miniseries. "Gen Z & the Debt Trap" is a three-part series that explores why Gen Z is accumulating debt faster than any other generation. I pitched the idea and worked day in and out to produce this story. It was daunting but I'm proud to have taken the risk on a project of this scope. As far as I'm aware, I became the first intern to do a miniseries. None of this could've happened without the guidance of Ariana Aspuru who has shown me every day what an audio producer should be: passionate, innovative and kind. She inspired me every day to give it my all and to never be afraid of trying new things. In fact, she recommended I present the pitch as a miniseries. Taking the first step is always the hardest, but she helped me land the jump. The Journal's audio team is filled with so many brilliant minds and outstanding personalities that I could probably write a book about them. I hope to one day see everyone again. It's my last year at the Missouri School of Journalism, but I'm incredibly excited to use every skill I've learned to make the most of being a senior. In the meantime, if you want to listen to my series click below or listen to "Gen Z & the Debt Trap" on Your Money Briefing, which is available anywhere you listen to podcasts! https://lnkd.in/ehg_nYby A special thank you to Jess Fenton and Michael LaValle. They're exceptional audio engineers and artists. Their sound mixing made this show come to life. It's an emotional moment to listen to your fully produced episode for the first time and I'm grateful to them for such an important life milestone. I'm excited to write to you all soon. Thank you for sticking with me. Who knows what adventures await us next!

"My first suggestion would be to listen to the data, listen to the customers and I think that will open up and unlock a lot of missed opportunities." In today's episode of Kantar's Future Proof podcast, Dow Jones Global Chief Revenue Officer Josh Stinchcomb sat down with host Jane Ostler to discuss the dynamics at play in media. With brand safety and ROI top of mind for every CMO, Josh argues for a data-led approach to media planning, calling on marketers to invest in trusted news platforms and practice caution with their blocklists. "The Wall Street Journal is Doing Great After the Media Apocalypse" The Wall Street Journal's world-class reporting and the expansive professional service offerings at Dow Jones–including Dow Jones Factiva, OPIS, A Dow Jones Company and Dow Jones Risk & Compliance–were the focus of this story by New York Magazine, which highlighted the company's overall success in the midst of economic headwinds faced by many in the media industry. “The Journal has more advantages to draw on than many of its competitor organizations. The newsroom has a deep well of talent, and the company has the resources to pursue the most ambitious of scoops and investigations. The company also has a more expensive, and lucrative, data package for business clients, which drove more of Dow Jones’s growth…” Read here: https://lnkd.in/ewXPQneJ Illustration: New York Magazine
