We're proud to support organizations like Kingmakers of Oakland through the Just City Cultural Fund alongside our partners at Akonadi Foundation and the City of Oakland. Kingmakers of Oakland works with schools and communities to improve the educational and life outcomes of Black boys from PreK through Ph.D. Throughout their Just City Cultural Fund project, Kingmakers of Oakland created a beautiful album, Black Joy, and music videos. Alongside the album, Kingmakers of Oakland created a curriculum and discussion guide so the music can be used to support culturally responsive curriculum. Their GLISTEN video won the People's Choice Award at the Afro Comic Con Film Festival and Kingmakers of Oakland sold out their first Black History Month film festival which created a place of healing, celebration, joy and afrofuturism.

Alongside our partners Akonadi Foundation and the City of Oakland, we're proud to spotlight one of our Belonging in Oakland: Just City Cultural Fund grantees – Friends of Peralta Hacienda Historical Park! Exhibits and community programs at Peralta Hacienda Historical Park bring people together to understand each other’s cultures and heal historical wounds. Throughout their Just City Cultural Fund storytelling project, Friends of Peralta Hacienda Historical Park focused on celebrating and elevating Ohlone, Fruitvale Tribal peoples, and international Indigenous people living in Oakland. At their festivals and convenings, they saw firsthand the community’s appreciation and need for knowledge and acknowledgement of Indigenous communities and traditional arts.

Rise East is a bold $100 million initiative to revitalize East Oakland, led by community members who know the area best. Spearheaded by local leaders, this decade-long effort will deeply invest in East Oakland. With $43 million already raised, the coalition plans to create affordable housing, community spaces, and more. EBCF is proud to be involved in innovative community-led and driven solutions like Rise East to revive East Oakland. We have deep relationships with many of the key organizations involved, and we share the vision of families and businesses staying, growing, and thriving in the neighborhood. This fund is dedicated to uplifting grassroots AANHPI organizations, prioritizing those with annual budgets under $1 million, and aiming to raise $10 million by 2025.
