One of our recent event took us to the EPA CENTER in East Palo Alto: Inclusion Sustainability in Silicon Valley: A DEI Discussion & Leadership Recognition. hosted by Urban League of the Greater Greater San Francisco Bay Area in partnership with EQL and PRISCA. Many cities around the country can take notes from the lessons of a little city that turned itself around, slowly but surely! Thank you Urban League of Greater San Francisco Bay Area Kenneth E. Maxey II, MPA, MAIPCR Sarbani Banerjee Mulchandani for hosting a thoughtful Juneteenth celebration at EPACENTER and in my “hometown” of East Palo Alto yesterday. EPA’s progress is remarkable, heartfelt and a reminder that big things can happen in small obscure places. Cheers to the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion report your team championed in Silicon Valley. Indeed there are questions companies are reluctant to ask employees, making this report invaluable in the corporate landscape. “It really is a testament to the commitment of the community to fix itself,” Sharifa Wilson, who was mayor of East Palo Alto in 1992, told Brittny. “The fact that we were labeled the homicide capital gave us an attention that we needed, and then we took that attention and turned it into something positive. If you give us lemons, we’re gonna make lemonade.”

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the "Inclusion Sustainability in Silicon Valley: A DEI Discussion and Leadership Recognition" event at the EPACENTER in East Palo Alto, hosted by the Urban League of Greater San Francisco Bay Area. It was an informative gathering that brought together passionate leaders and advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the tech industry. The discussion highlighted the powerful partnership between the Urban League and Inclusion@work, resulting in a comprehensive 156-page report on DEI strategies and practices. The insights shared were both eye-opening and motivating, reinforcing the critical importance of building inclusive and sustainable workplaces. I am grateful to have been a part of this important conversation and look forward to contributing to the ongoing efforts in promoting DEI within our community. Thanks for the invite Kenneth E. The mural team: Muralist Richard Muro-Salazar and youth muralists Olivia, Ezequiel and Sydney have designed a mural in our North Fair Oaks home to share our story of impact! They have been committed to the process including learning about our history, listening attentively to staff, visiting our neighborhood etc. The team has designed a mural that truly represents our work in the community and our history!
