Harmon project TMC3 was recently recognized as one of the best designs of North America in Fast Company's 2024 Innovation by Design Awards! It was a privilege to partner with Elkus Manfredi Architects and Vaughn Construction on this unique, custom curtainwall system.
Texas Medical Center’s TMC3 Collaborative Building has been recognized as one of the best designs of North America in Fast Company’s 2024 Innovation by Design Awards! The TMC3 Collaborative Building is a forward-looking incubator for the cross-disciplinary collaboration required by 21st-century science. Starting with its open-armed, terraced façade, the building is designed to foster synergies among the academic institutions and industry partners that produce life-saving innovations. At the heart of the building, the central atrium is an expression of dismantling of silos, open innovation, and collaboration reaching across the multiple research areas of the founding institutions. “Rather than create an isolated district, we are creating a hub,” says CEO & Founding Principal David Manfredi FAIA, LEED AP. “It’s the connections between all these places that create the opportunities for unintended collisions as well as for formal collaboration. It's amazing to see the unique "bow tie" feature on JFK's Terminal One taking shape! We are proud to have engineered, manufactured, and installed this complex element with a special shout-out to Ironworkers Local 580 for their execution in the field.
Our team has reached another milestone on the construction of our world-class terminal, finishing work on the unique "bow tie" feature that will take centerstage on the roof of our departures hall, as seen in the exterior rendering at the start of this video. Part of our terminal's sustainable design, the bow tie feature elevates the flow of natural light into the terminal – creating a beautiful first impression for our future customers as they arrive at our world-class terminal for their flight. The bow tie feature is constructed with more than 250 panels of custom-made curtain wall, with each unique unit fabricated with an opaque interlayer. This interlayer allows natural light to filter through to our departures level and retail floor, while eliminating any issues with reflection and glare on screens being used at airline counters and kiosks.
