We were delighted to be joined by Vincent Pons from The Jackson Laboratory at the 2024 PURA Syndrome Conference, where he shared an update on the mouse model for PURA Syndrome that JAX created with funding from the The National Institutes of Health. A mouse model is essential to finding a treatment and a cure for many diseases. Because mice share mammalian features with humans, seeing how mutations in the PURA gene work in mice and how they respond is a key step towards identifying therapeutic interventions. Once the mouse model is completed, Dr. Dowling and Dr. Jiang’s labs will use those mice for their research. NEWS: We’re excited to announce a brand-new collaboration between Jack’s Tomorrow and The Jackson Laboratory (JAX)! With funding from Jack’s Tomorrow, JAX will begin a new project to engineer several induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines. These powerful tools are used to create any cell or tissue in the body, allowing scientists to study diseases in a culture dish. Not only will this research deepen our understanding of this disease, but it will also serve an important function to encourage more scientists to study PURA Syndrome. Because researchers need access to critical tools, our aim is to strengthen basic and clinical research on PURA Syndrome to build momentum towards a cure.
