  • Fuego is a Superintendent with JBC. In this post, she explains her experience starting out in construction, and how that experience has furthered her development within this industry. My initial inspiration came when I helped a customer design a deck and place an order for their custom home with new products uncommon in architecture in the DMV. The building process and phases as a whole had me hooked, and I never looked back. It’s been a great and challenging journey being a woman in an industry dominated by men, but I’ve proven countless times that construction and management in construction doesn’t have just one face or one color. I’m proud to be a part of diverse women challenging the industry.

  • Below, Beth talks about her experience of being a woman in the construction industry Working in HR within the construction industry offers a unique set of experiences. It involves managing recruitment, employee relations, and compliance within a fast-paced and often times demanding environment. One of the key aspects of this role is fostering diversity and inclusion, including actively hiring and supporting women in construction. Hiring women in construction requires a proactive approached to overcome the industry’s traditionally male-dominated culture. We have implemented strategies to attract and retain female talent, such as being intentional in our recruiting efforts, creating a supportive work environment, and offering career development opportunities. There are still challenges that arise such as stereotypes and biases, but that only drives us to continue to make progress and provide the opportunities. It is my belief that diversity in construction will only lead to a more innovative and productive workforce. Overall, working in HR and hiring women in construction offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by promoting diversity and I get to play a role in creating a more inclusive workplace. This is one of the biggest reasons why I love what I do!
