In the latest edition of The Cooler, we sat down with Erin Glabets, head of communications at Sublime Systems, a Boston-based startup developing technology to decarbonize cement-making. Erin has found there is important nuance and many different audiences who all require different types of stories for ultimate buy-in. And it’s working: Sublime was recently awarded $87 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and has created partnerships with industry stalwarts like BOSTON SAND & GRAVEL CO. Today, client Waabi announced a $200M funding round, led by Uber and Khosla Ventures and includes strategic investors NVIDIA, Volvo Group Venture Capital, Porsche Automobil Holding SE, Scania Group Invest and Ingka Investments. The funding will support the company’s launch of fully driverless autonomous trucks in 2025. In just three years, Waabi has shown incredible vision and progress in their industry – pioneering new technology that’s paving a safer, more efficient pathway for autonomous vehicles to be used in the world. This is big news, signaling a milestone in autonomous vehicles and showing a way forward for generative AI in the physical world. It has even gained recognition from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. It’s moments like these from change-the-world companies that make our work so special. Congratulations team!

Last month, team members Matt Calderone and Abby R. had the opportunity to attend the second annual Carbon Unbound Summit to discuss the future of carbon removal, a topic we’re passionate about here at the Squad. It’s an exciting time in this space. We get to work with leading companies and organizations that are building an entirely new industry from the ground up.
