We are deeply thankful to the 31 donor heroes and their families who chose to save lives in July. Because of their selfless decision to give the gift of life, 105 life-saving gifts were transplanted. Each donor is a true hero, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and love. 💙💚

Candice was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age seven and managed her disease well throughout her adolescence. In college, however, Candice’s health drastically declined. Candice still managed to graduate, moved to her hometown, started her career and married the love of her life. In 2015, doctors informed Candice that her kidney function dropped to 30% and the following year it functioned at only 15%. She needed dialysis and a kidney transplant. Several relatives stepped up as potential living donors, but it was Candice’s husband, Gibran, who was the perfect match. In early December 2016, Candice and her husband went into surgery and recovered together during the Christmas holiday. Three weeks post-transplant, Candice was back at work with the promise she would do everything possible to take care of her gifted kidney. Her health was improved further with a pancreas transplant which resolved her lifelong battle with diabetes. “I’m the best I’ve ever been, and I have so much joy, excitement and hope because of my donors,” says Candice. Our very own Bobby Howard, Director of LifeLink of Georgia’s Multicultural Donation Education Program, told WSB-TV more about our partnership with Morehouse School of Medicine to train more medical students on their role in donation and transplantation. With only 5.5% of transplant surgeons being Black, we must address racial disparities in donation by not only working with our incredible donor families, but also with the healthcare teams that serve them. Lisa Richmond, Manager, Administrative Services, is celebrating her 5-year anniversary with LifeLink of Georgia this month. 💙 When asked what this milestone means to her, Lisa says, "Working at LifeLink of Georgia for the past five years has been such an honor. I am moved everyday by the strength and courage of our donor families and the amazing stories of the many lives that were saved. This summer, Education Specialist, Adrianna, joined the Summer Reading Kickoff with Augusta-Richmond County Public Library System! 📚🌞 We connected with over 650 families and 1,500+ attendees, spreading the word about organ donation. 🎉 And guess what? We registered 15 new organ donors! 🙌 Be sure to check out the bookmobile featuring our logo—it's cruising all over Augusta, making stops at senior homes, parks, schools, daycare centers, and special events. 🚐💙

The HRSA DoNation campaign is all about bringing together local organ recovery organizations, hospitals, and businesses to spread the word about organ, eye, and tissue donation. It's all about education, awareness, and getting more people to register. 💙💚 We're thrilled to share that LifeLink of Georgia was featured in the 4th issue of 'Digging into DoNation' for the 2023-2024 campaign! This shoutout highlights the incredible enrollment rates from our non-hospital workplace partners.
