17-year-old Matthew Curtin received a lifesaving birthday present when he got the call for his kidney transplant. Matthew was diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Disease at 13-years-old and was placed on the transplant waiting list one year ago. Thanks to the selflessness of his donor hero, Matthew was given a second chance at life. “We got that call, and in the worst possible moment of their life, [the donor family] chose to give this child — this wonderful kid another chance at living." ~Beth Curtin, Matthew's mother Read the full WATE 6 On Your Side story at https://lnkd.in/gFVcyVah #DonateLife #OrganDonation #KidneyRecipient #BeTheGift

On a day filled with tremendous loss, our commitment to saving lives persevered and did so for 6-month-old Kareena who was in need of a liver transplant. Thanks to her donor, the determined efforts of Tennessee Donor Services, the air traffic controller on duty that day and the Tennessee Air Guard, Kareena continues her own journey to save lives in the medical field. On this day, we remember. We remember the lives that were lost. We remember the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice to save others. We remember the families who were forever changed. On this day, we never forget. #NeverForget #September11 #911Anniversary

In 2013, Luther was diagnosed with kidney failure and would need a kidney transplant to survive. His son, Nathan, was eager to help his father, working on his health and fitness to become an optimal living donor. In January 2019, Nathan was involved in a car accident and declared brain dead. He was a registered organ donor, saving his father's life by donating his kidney and saving the lives of five others with his gifts. For Nathan's family, this was a heartbreaking loss but a beautiful opportunity for their son to live on through his father, Luther. It only takes one YES to save countless lives. Register to be an organ, eye and tissue donor at DonateLifeTN.org. #DonateLife #OrganDonation #DonorFamily #DonorHero #OrganDonor #KidneyRecipient
