Evelyn and Linda are two extraordinary volunteers who dedicate their time to serving at a local high-rise building. Their dedication to our holiday outreach initiatives is invaluable, as they help us serve meals to seniors in need. Thanks to their efforts, we can spread extra joy and hope to North Side's senior community during the holiday season. Today, we enjoyed a meal with them and gave them a tour of our Mission to share more about what we do. Please join us in thanking them for their ongoing collaboration and commitment to making the holiday seasons brighter for those we serve!

Since 1952, Light of Life has been a place where hope and healing meet for men, women, and families experiencing homelessness, poverty, or addiction. We transform lives through the love of Christ. A nonprofit, Christian organization, Light of Life Rescue Mission employs a skilled, caring team who teach, counsel and mentor people in need. Light of Life empowers men, women and children to achieve lifelong self-sufficiency, healthy, spirit-filled living and ongoing growth both personally and professionally. Light of Life collaborates with many area agencies to help those it serves to receive the most appropriate and highest quality care available. More than 1,000 individuals seeking hope for a better life pass through the Mission's doors each year. Light of Life is supported primarily by individual donors and is bountifully blessed by the services of numerous volunteers and other partners.

Our Outreach Team took ladies from our shelter for some coffee and a trip to the Museum of Illusions! "From mind-bending optical illusions to interactive displays, excitement and laughter filled the room. The ladies were thrilled to capture these moments together," our staff shared. The day was filled with joy, new friendships and a lot of laughter, ultimately bringing everyone closer together.

Our Food Pantry served 10,000 meals last week to our neighbors in need! 1 in 5 people in Pittsburgh are considered food insecure. We're committed to ensuring every family has access to nutritious food so no one has to face hunger alone. Our Food Pantry is one way we provide a lifeline for those who need a helping hand.

Our Executive Director, Rev. Jerrel T. Gilliam, and our Women's Shelter Manager, Lateresa Blackwell, were honored at the Pittsburgh Circle of Courage Awards! This award honors Pittsburghers who embody the virtues of faith and courage through their impactful work within the community. "It was a profound honor to see myself and Lateresa recognized at the Pittsburgh Circle of Courage Awards. It's a testament to the incredible work our staff is doing to serve our city's most vulnerable," Jerrel said. We are truly fortunate to have Jerrel and Lateresa as part of the Light of Life family. Their dedication to providing exceptional care to our neighbors in need is evident through their work at our Mission and beyond.

Recently, a man who had been using our outreach services came to our Day Center after a trip to the emergency room, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia. He was prescribed three medications but couldn't get them due to a lack of insurance. Our Outreach Team was able to step in. They drove to the hospital, covered the cost of the medication and picked up his prescriptions. Overwhelmed with joy and love, the man realized that someone truly cared for him. In a dark hour, we were able to offer him a glimpse of hope. There are many challenges of becoming homeless. We are grateful for our Street Outreach team who are able to help individuals going through so much already. ❤️

Men from our shelter and Day Center joined us for a hike at Riverview Park, led by our senior manager of men's services, with the mission of harvesting monarch butterfly eggs. 🦋🌳 Just as these insects undergo metamorphosis, our clients go through their own transformations. Our continuum of care guides them along the whole process, nurturing their growth every step of the way. #lightoflife #rescuemission #summer #butterfly #transformation #pittsburgh #nature #fyp

Our annual staff and client picnic last weekend at Moraine State Park was a hit!🌞 It was a perfect day for our community to come together and make memories outside of our normal programming. These experiences help to deepen relationships, strengthen trust, and remind us all of the joy that comes from simply being together and having fun.
