Great #education happens when teachers recognize the unique learning capabilities of each child in their classroom. Collecting real-time data in classrooms is critical for teachers to be able to meet each individual child where they are on their learning journey, and ensure children are learning. At Luminos, real-time data collection and usage is a critical part of the overall success of our work, driving decision-making to ensure our program’s impact! Meet Rastee, our new Associate Director of Programs! Rastee supports program development, delivery, and management at Luminos. Previously, she held management, research, and policy consultant positions at several INGOs. Rastee is passionate about using evidence and policy to address #education challenges in the developing world. She says, “Every child has the right to a good education. With strong, committed teams, evidence on what works, and local expertise, Luminos gives children that have been left behind another chance at being masters of their own future.” #MeetTheTeamMonday

Hindo is attending school for the first time at age 10, thanks to the Luminos program in #Ethiopia! For many years, Hindo was out of school helping her family around the home and looking after their cattle. When the free Luminos program launched in her community, Hindo finally had the chance to learn and catch-up to her peers. “I was very happy to come to school!” she says. Today, Hindo’s teacher boasts of her “incredible progress.” Hindo started the Luminos program unable to identify letters. Now she can read and write, and particularly excels in math! “Education is very important,” says Hindo. “I’m proud of my education.” She hopes to continue her education all the way through university and dreams of becoming a doctor. 👩⚕️🏥

Gifty, a Luminos teacher in #Ghana is achieving her dream of helping out-of-school children in her community! Supported by the Luminos program’s ongoing training, coaching, and structured pedagogy, Gifty is helping transform the lives of her students by building their foundational reading, writing, and math skills, as well as their sense of identity and self-belief. Learning to read is a crucial milestone in every child’s life. Yet nearly 90% of children in Sub-Saharan Africa are unable to read by age 10. The Luminos program unlocks the light of learning in thousands of children each year, enabling them to learn critical foundational literacy and numeracy skills, and transition into government schools. Our students, teachers, and the communities that surround them are overcoming daunting obstacles to achieve incredible things. Effective accelerated programs can be a critical tool in tackling learning loss and closing #education access gaps. Yet, despite good faith efforts, global education funding is rarely directed towards education interventions that have a proven positive impact on children’s learning.
