Mayte says, "As I lace up my running shoes and prepare for the race, I am filled with a sense of responsibility, purpose and determination. Every step I take and every breath, is dedicated to supporting lung cancer research in honor of my Mother, Aurora Salinas. She was diagnosed with Stage II Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, on February 2023. Her battle with lung cancer has shown me what true resilience, bravery and beauty look like. My mom is fighting her best fight, and I am running this race to stand by her side, to show her that she is not alone in this journey." The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a new treatment option for people newly diagnosed with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors have EGFR exon 19 deletions or exon 21 L858R mutations.
