Circular Plastics. Zero Carbon.

Über uns

At MacroCycle, we revive end-of-life plastics. We will protect our world through our circular, sustainable, zero-carbon plastic upcycling process. With leading experts in polymer chemistry and plastics engineering from MIT, ETH Zurich and Politecnico di Milano on our team, we take plastic waste in the form of bottles, food trays and polyester textiles, and produce our first product, virgin-grade mPET (MacroCycle-PET) resin. All with zero carbon emissions, through MacroCycle's net-zero and efficient low energy process. • THE AMERICAS ACT📝♻️ The Americas Trade and Investment Act ("Americas Act") is a bipartisan, bicameral piece of legislation introduced by U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy and Michael Bennet. The visionary bill aims to boost green trade and manufacturing competitiveness in the Western Hemisphere, through promoting near shoring and on shoring manufacturing. Importantly, the bill includes a historic emphasis on textile circularity, providing circular textile businesses incentives for the first time in federal history, without using consumer tax dollars. The current textile manufacturing landscape has caused unprecedented natural resource depletion, environmental and labor exploitation, emissions, and waste. Additionally, over the last 30+ years the United States has lost the jobs and corresponding economic opportunities that textile manufacturing once provided to our county. In the way that public policy has supported renewable energy and transportation manufacturing supply chains, Americas Act enables U.S. companies to combat these consequences while preparing for the future,. The bill aims to level the playing field for greener textile manufacturing, through bolstering U.S. circular textile manufacturing, and in providing low cost public funding and tax incentives. MacroCycle’s core value is promoting circularity and sustainability; we support ACT (American Circular Textiles) and the Americas Act in hope for a more circular and informed future. #upcycling #polyester #circularity

  • ♻Education on Plastic Recycling⚙ There are several technologies being developed in the recycling industry to be able to produce virgin/virgin-grade plastics. These technologies are on a high-level: PLASTIC-TO-FUEL (PYROLYSIS): Using heat, this process breaks down the polymer to fuel, and re-introduce this early in the established petrochemical process to undergo all the traditional steps to arrive back at the original polymer. This technology has the advantage of breaking down hard-to-recycle plastics with a large potential infrastructure, but it can be quite energy intensive with low target product yields, resulting in increased carbon emissions comparing production only (that is, when not accounting for incineration) per available LCAs. PLASTIC-TO-MONOMER (METHANOLYSIS, ENZYMOLYSIS, etc.): These plastic-to-monomer technologies work by breaking the polymers into their building blocks, monomers. These monomers are then also integrated into established petrochemical processes, but further along the process chain to be remade into the original polymers. The innovation in this space is how efficiently or how little you have to break down the polymer to recycle the plastic. Different technologies have different advantages, but they all have to rely on the petrochemical industry, providing limited energy and carbon emission reductions. MACROCYCLE: Through MacroCycle's Solvogenesis™ process, the polymer is never broken down. As a result, MacroCycle can provide virgin-grade plastic through a more energy efficient pathway that is not dependent on the petrochemical industry. This results in significantly lower carbon emissions, and avoiding a reliance on the petrochemical industry to make the industry desired product. MacroCycle's technology provides a new pathway to upcycle plastics more efficiently. And since it does not rely on the petrochemical industry, it can be fully electrified with renewable energy to achieve recycling with zero scope 1 emissions!

  • ♻🗑The plastic problem Did you know that the plastic dumped in our oceans eventually ends up as microplastic in our food? Or that the global CO2 emissions of just plastic are equivalent to those of the entire country of Japan, which is the 5th largest CO2 emitter in the world? According to some sources, the plastic market size surpassed the $600B threshold between 2022 and 2023, and continues to grow: we must do something. And we are. MacroCycle Technologies is revolutionizing the plastic recycling market by recycling lower-grade plastic, starting with PET and polyester, into virgin-grade PET, without green premium nor carbon emissions. MacroCycle believes that plastic recycling can eliminate our plastic dependency from fossil fuels and keeping the plastics out of the environment, allowing society to enjoy the benefits without the harms of plastic. Follow us and our journey to reduce the plastic problem, one bottle and one t-shirt at the time. #plastic #recycling #zerocarbon

Did you know that traditional single-stream recycling haulers do not recycle anything that looks like a lab product? To learn more about what happens to #labplastic on the back end, watch this short #documentary. Thanks to Michael LaRhette, Nicholas T. Charlton and the amazing team at LabCentral along with Veolia North America, the MassBio team: Craig Carew Steve Powell, Paul Cosgro and so many more for your support in making this happen! #greenlabs #recycling #boston #massachusetts #localrecycling
