Upon completion in April 2026, Pasco Aquatics Center will be NAC’s largest aquatic-focused construction project ever. The indoor portion of the project will include a variety of water features, including a lazy river, water slides, basketball hoops, a vortex and social alcove off the river, and a children’s play area with zero-depth entry. Outside, the Aquatics Center will feature additional children’s play areas, and unique amenities such as a wave-ball court, a climbing wall, and a mini ninja course. Surrounding the 4,700 square-foot pool will be plenty of seating and gathering areas for the community to enjoy. Phase II will add an indoor 3-lane 25-yard lap pool with spectator seating interconnected to other amenities, two beach volleyball courts, and pickleball courts. Water Technology, Inc. Kimball Elementary School is a replacement of the original school built on the same site in 1971. The design responds to two great challenges. One, the site had more than 50 feet of elevation change and more than 100 jurisdictionally regulated trees. Two, the school had a long tradition of teaching in open concept classrooms, a feature at odds with SPS’s equity-based educational specifications.   NAC turned a constraint into a feature by wrapping the new Kimball Elementary School around existing groves and hillsides. Internally, classrooms are designed with operable walls and windows to provide visual connection and collaboration opportunities between classrooms.   Community outreach during the design process inspired special features including displays of mosaics salvaged from the original building and native language environmental graphics. The design fully implements passive solar design strategies using building orientation, natural shading from mature evergreen groves, and a highly insulated building envelope with a remarkably low air infiltration that is 1/3 of the Seattle Energy Code threshold.   Team: Coughlin Porter Lundeen Hargis Engineers Osborn Consulting Seattle Public Schools   Photography: Benjamin Benschneider

Expedition Elementary School welcomed students to their first day of school yesterday! We were thrilled to see the excitement from students and parents at the new building. Filled with light and wrapped around an inviting courtyard designed to inspire curiosity, the new school houses about 500 students in 27 general classrooms with various shared spaces. Congratulations to Bethel School District, the school community, and the entire team! Exciting Week with Future Architects! This past month, NAC was thrilled to host an inspiring group of high school and college students, thanks to our fantastic partnership with SoCal NOMA. Our goal was to introduce these bright, diverse minds to the world of architecture, offering them a firsthand glimpse into our daily work and the many possibilities within Arch. Through hands-on experiences, engaging discussions, and shadowing opportunities, we aim to demystify architecture and show these students just how accessible and rewarding it can be. We believe that by supporting and mentoring these future architects, we can help pave the way for more diversity and innovation in the industry. Here's to nurturing new talent and making architecture a field where everyone feels welcome and inspired! A huge thank you to SoCalNOMA - Southern California Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects for their incredible partnership and to all the students who participated. Keep dreaming big, and we can't wait to see where your journeys take you!

Make it Real. When one of our interns reaches the end of their internship, we ask them to choose a Make it statement that resonates with their experience at NAC. Make it statements embody our values as a firm. Evan Sedlacek, an intern in our Seattle office, chose Make it Real because his experience allowed him to take concepts learned in school and see how they come to fruition. He says he was able to leverage his "unique knowledge of Grasshopper and 3D printing to bring a bespoke gradiented metal facade into the realm of possibility." Evan will be completing his education at Kansas State University. Thank you, Evan! Music by Parler/Jamendo/stock.adobe.com Photo 3 by Benjamin Benschneider

We’re proud to announce that a new stretch of the Children of the Sun Trail in Spokane is officially open! Our team was thrilled to attend the ribbon cutting, where we celebrated this significant community milestone. This important extension enhances neighborhood connections across the evolving US 395, which will link downtown Spokane to northern communities. Our team at NAC Engineering ensured the trail is well-lit and welcoming by providing electrical and lighting solutions at key connection points. A big thank you to our partners KPFF, Berger Partnership, Graham Construction, and Colvico for their collaboration on this impactful project. Photos by NAC Architecture.
