Alaska hosts a multitude of species, big and small, found nowhere else on Earth. The state offers a tremendous conservation opportunity – much of the habitat remains intact and wildlife resources are abundant. At the same time, species populations are rapidly shifting in number and distribution, forcing local communities to adapt to a changing way of life. Through the Alaska Fish and Wildlife Fund, NFWF, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and USDA Forest Service are seeking proposals for further conservation of species and habitats in Alaska. Acres for America, a NFWF and Walmart partnership, has helped to protect more than 2 million acres of wildlife habitat across the nation, while benefiting local communities and economies. 🙌 During the month of September, you can support NFWF and the Acres for America program by rounding up at checkout when shopping online at Walmart.com and Walmart will match those donations 2 to 1, up to $1 million. Rounding up is an easy way to support the conservation of wildlife habitat and contribute to this vital program.
So many of Walmart’s customers love to get out into the great outdoors for hiking, camping, water sports – you name it. Since 2005, Walmart and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation have been working together through the Acres for America program to help protect America’s natural landscapes for current and future generations. In the month of September, we’re providing an opportunity for our customers to join us in supporting conservation in communities across the country when they shop online at Walmart.com or in the app. From Sept. 1-30, customers can donate to NFWF at checkout, and Walmart will match those donations 2:1, up to $1 million. Over the years, Acres for America has helped conserve wildlife habitat, fostered access to the outdoors and supported local economies that rely on forestry, ranching and recreation. For example, the Kootenai Forestlands project in Montana protects habitat for a wide range of wildlife, and has plenty of opportunities for people to get outside year-round to hike, fish, kayak, ski and more. The Acres For America program started as a simple idea – conserve one acre of wildlife habitat for every acre used to develop Walmart stores. The program has far exceeded that goal – helping spark a total impact of $1.1 billion dollars and supporting the conservation of more than 2 million acres in almost every state. Today, it is recognized as one of the leading public-private land conservation efforts in America. We're looking forward to inviting our customers to join us in this big effort this month! Meet Angela Floyd-Ryland, a proud fourth-generation farmer in Monroe County, Arkansas, who’s turning her family’s legacy into a lifeline for wildlife. With help from USDA-NRCS’s Wetland Reserve Easement Partnership and a grant from the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley Restoration Fund, with funding from International Paper and the Walton Family Foundation, Angela has transformed 39 acres of her flood-prone farmland into thriving wetlands. Thanks to these conservation programs and support from project partners including the KKAC FOUNDATION, The Nature Conservancy and the MISSISSIPPI RIVER TRUST, Angela is preserving her family’s land and restoring it to its natural state, providing a safe haven for fish, rabbits, quail and more. Angela was able to share her story with KARK 4 News by inviting the team out to her family’s land. Join us in celebrating the power of conservation and continuation of a family’s dream by watching Angela tell her story >> https://loom.ly/TKuwSNc

The vast grasslands of the Northern Great Plains support an amazing array of wildlife, yet this ecosystem is one of the most threatened and least protected in the country. Ranchers, farmers, Indigenous-led groups and the individuals who call this landscape home have come together around a common purpose: to safeguard this precious ecosystem for generations to come. Without locally led action, the destruction of this critical landscape would have global consequences. That’s why the Bezos Earth Fund and NFWF have teamed up to support this vision for vibrant, healthy grasslands that support biodiversity, carbon storage and America’s cultural richness. #grasslands #greatplains #prairie #conservation #wildlife

Protecting wildlife isn’t just our mission – it’s our passion. On #NationalWildlifeDay and every day, we’re committed to sustaining and restoring the nation’s habitats for future generations. Our conservation efforts are helping species like gopher tortoises and red-cockaded woodpeckers rebound from the brink of extinction. Through the Forestland Stewards Partnership with International Paper, we empower landowners to revitalize forestlands across 14 southern states, safeguarding the region’s unique biodiversity. From pine snakes to Louisiana black bears, the projects we support help restore and sustainably manage forests, providing a sanctuary for countless species and conserving the South’s natural heritage for the future. 🌿 📷: Left to right: Gopher tortoise, red-cockaded woodpecker, Louisiana pinesnake (Ian Fischer/USFWS), Louisiana black bear #wildlife #wildlifewednesday #conservation #environment

Due to its geographic isolation, Hawaiʻi has unique fauna and flora that are particularly vulnerable to changes in their environment. Unfortunately, 98 of 142 known endemic bird species have gone extinct since humans came to Hawaiʻi. With support from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), the USDA Forest Service, United States Department of Defense’s Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration (REPI) Program, and Pulama Lanai, the Hawaiʻi Conservation Program is offering grants for conservation projects that protect endangered and threatened native species.
