🎉 Celebrating McAuley Ministries' 15th Anniversary with a historic first! OpenStreets made its debut in the Hill District, featuring City in the Streets—an initiative by Mayor Gainey's administration to bring government to the people, solve neighborhood issues, and provide resources in a block party setting. Cheers to community empowerment and innovation! 🌟 #McAuleyMinistries #OpenStreetsPGH #CityintheStreets #CommunityCelebration
Last year McAuley Ministries approached us with a vision for combining the magic of Bike Pittsburgh’s Open Streets with Mayor Ed Gainey’s City in the Streets in the historic Hill District. The goal was to engage Hill District residents in the activation and resources both initiatives collectively offer, while also highlighting to residents and visitors the incredible level of investment underway in the Hill District community. We learned a lot over the last year and were humbled when we needed to be. The community held us accountable when we’d start to slide into a “wash, rinse, repeat” approach. I will never forget Marimba Milliones’ words in one of the planning meetings: “We are asking you to stretch yourselves and think about these initiatives differently when you do them here.” As we got to work, McAuley pointed out there was no central source of information about the millions of dollars of investments planned or in progress for the Hill. One-pagers turned to two-pagers as we worked to compile the information. I believe the future is bright for the Hill District. See for yourself below...and let us know if we missed anything! Thanks to all the teams and partners who worked so hard to make yesterday beautiful.
