Today, Samaritan’s Purse airlifted a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) and over 24 tons of life-saving supplies to the Caribbean on our DC-8 Cargo Plane in response to Hurricane Beryl. Over the weekend, we prepped for the storm's potentially catastrophic impact by preparing our equipment, supplies and team. By noon today, the DC-8 took off to Grenada with 13 members of our DART along with 600 rolls of tarp, 3,000 solar lights, a desalination unit, 300 collapsible jerry cans, and a mobile medical unit. “Hurricane Beryl pummeled the Windward Islands, and left thousands of families in need of emergency relief,” said Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse. “We started building out pallets of cargo before the hurricane even made landfall and are now on the way with life-saving aid. For Pastor Sergey and his family, Jesus' command to believe in and partake in Him as the bread of life is uniquely lived out daily through their ministry in Ukraine. The family of nine bakes fresh bread to fund their pastoral ministry and connect with members of their community. In March, 2022, when bombings destroyed the bakery and forced the family to find refuge in a new city, Sergey was determined to continue baking bread and offering the community Jesus- the eternal bread of life. With no baking equipment or access to clean water, it took months of hard work for Sergey to begin rebuilding the bakery in the new city. Samaritan's Purse was able to partner with the family to provide equipment for a new bakery, a six-month supply of flour, and a water filtration system. Today Sergey and his family use these resources to provide other Ukrainians with clean water, fresh bread, employment opportunities at the bakery, and most importantly "the living Word of God."
