This month, Tent Partnership for Refugees solemnly marks the third anniversary of the fall of Kabul and the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan – a harrowing chapter for millions of Afghans. Since August 2021, nearly 160,000 Afghan refugees have sought safety and a fresh start in the U.S., yet many still face significant challenges in rebuilding their careers. Launched in March 2023, in collaboration with Hiring Our Heroes and the The Afghan-American Foundation Foundation, Tent’s Afghan Refugee Mentorship Initiative is helping to break down barriers for Afghan refugees looking to restart or advance in their careers. By harnessing the expertise and dedication of U.S. military veterans employed at leading Tent member companies like Accenture, Chobani, Hilton, Intuit, and Pfizer – we’ve provided hundreds of Afghan refugees with mentorship and guidance to reignite their careers and secure roles that truly reflect their talents, skills, and experience. Naser, one of the program’s Afghan refugee mentees, shared, “The mentorship has been incredibly valuable. Across Europe, refugee women’s employment rates remain relatively low at 45%, compared with 62% for refugee men – reflecting the unique set of challenges refugee women encounter on the road to employment. Since 2021, more than 75 companies have joined the Tent Partnership for Refugees’ Refugee Women Mentorship Initiative in Europe, helping 2,300+ refugee women become job-ready by offering them professional one-to-one guidance and hands-on support to restart or advance their careers in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and the UK. Ahead of Ukraine’s Independence Day, we are reminded that millions will be marking the day away from their home country due to the war, including the nearly one million Ukrainians living in Poland. In Poland and elsewhere, refugees are seeking decent long-term employment solutions. 🇺🇦 🇵🇱 In an op-ed published today on HRNews - portal dla HR i o HR, Tent Partnership for Refugees Director for Poland, Paulina Jaworska, urges companies in Poland to step up and support more Ukrainian refugees into jobs. Tent Partnership for Refugees continues to make strides in Colombia! 🇨🇴 Earlier this month, Tent’s Country Director for Colombia Natalia Leon took part in two events engaging businesses and advancing employment opportunities for #refugees and #migrants in the country: In partnership with the Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehjælp, we helped connect over 300 refugee and migrant job-seekers with leading companies like Triple A S.A E.S.P and Atlantic Quantum Innovations at a hiring fair in Barranquilla with the aim of helping them find employment opportunities in the formal job market. Alongside ANDI - Asociación Nacional de Empresarios de Colombia, at their Social Marketplace event, Tent also engaged businesses from across Colombia – including those in the food, agriculture, and textile sectors – highlighting the many benefits of hiring refugees and migrants, and encouraging even more companies to join our movement. ¡Gracias a todos nuestros aliados por su apoyo incondicional!
