But things are not always as they seem… - They can appear to be a hired landscaper in your neighbor’s yard, meanwhile, they’re being made to work continuously with little or no pay. - They can appear to be a child who has just “not been themselves lately,” meanwhile, they’re a victim of online exploitation, being taken advantage of from their own home. - They can appear to be a woman with a doting boyfriend, meanwhile, they’re being forces to provide sexual services to his friends. Today, we celebrate FREEDOM. After bravely sharing her testimony in court, a survivor in New Orleans, Louisiana received victory when her trafficker was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison, with eight years strict probation. Our team is honored to have walked beside her in the legal process and will continue to support her throughout the healing journey. Despite being the fastest growing criminal enterprise, human trafficking often remains in the shadows of public awareness. It's easy to become complacent when we don't directly see ourselves affected by the issue. However, the reality is clear: trafficking persists whether we acknowledge it or not, and silence only perpetuates the suffering. Traffickers can operate in view of the public by: - Leveraging environments where their tactics blend in with everyday life, making it difficult for bystanders to recognize signs of recruitment and trafficking. - Forcing victims to perform daily tasks or work in industries that are perceived as normal (ei. hospitality and agriculture). - Presenting themselves as caregivers, partners, employers, and acquaintances, disguising their true intentions. - Using psychological manipulation to control victims, making it hard for bystanders to perceive the situation accurately. This deceptive camouflage allows traffickers to operate unnoticed, preying on vulnerabilities and selling men, women, and children for financial gain. ➡️ Even if you’re not 100% certain, ALWAYS report suspicious activity.
