FOR INPUT: USAID is excited to share and seek input on a draft of the new Policy for Global Health Development: Advancing Life Expectancy and Well-Being. We invite all of our partners, collaborators, and stakeholders to read the draft policy and provide feedback to ensure a truly inclusive and informed process. The public comment period will be open until September 3rd, and the draft and a feedback form can be found on the USAID website. This global health policy lays out a bold ten-year vision for optimizing USAID’s significant global health impact and addressing today’s urgent health needs while building sustainable and resilient health systems for the future – a vision that strives to align our programming to collectively focus on strengthening a primary health care (PHC) approach. It will build on and support the vision for ‘progress beyond programs’ outlined in USAID’s Policy Framework, which prioritizes reversing the decline in global life expectancy, bolstering global health security, and improving PHC amidst the complex and interconnected challenges of our time, while maintaining our flagship global health programs. This #WorldMosquitoDay we are happy to share that the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative—or PMI, the United States’ largest program working to #EndMalaria—has released its Vision for Investing Locally. Since its beginning PMI has partnered with local leaders, governments, and institutions to #EndMalaria. Today, the United States, through USAID, announced up to an additional $35 million in emergency health assistance to bolster response efforts for the #mpox outbreak in Central and Eastern Africa, pending Congressional Notification. The additional assistance will enable USAID to continue working closely with affected countries and global health partners to expand support and reduce the impact of this outbreak as it continues to evolve.
