The company’s focus is transferring waste from aging single-shell tanks into newer double-shell tanks where it will be stored until it is prepared for disposal. WRPS’ commitment includes doing the job safely with a strong focus on innovation, employee involvement and environmental protection. WRPS is a limited liability corporation (LLC) owned by AECOM and Atkins, with AREVA as its primary subcontractor. This partnership brings decades of experience to the job, which is considered one of the most complex cleanup projects in the nation. WRPS is committed to supporting programs and projects that advance educational and economic development opportunities in the region as well as those that enhance the quality of life. The future of the Tri-Cities area is bright, and WRPS is excited to be involved and help it grow to realize its full potential.

  • Silvia was born in nearby Hermiston, Oregon, but grew up in Benton City. She is a proud first-generation college graduate with a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Washington University. She joined WRPS in 2022 as a Human Resources staffing specialist and helps us recruit the top talent necessary to further the Hanford mission. “My team is amazing! I love collaborating with managers to find those ‘golden nugget’ candidates who can best help our organization succeed. I also love the excitement of making phone calls to candidates with a job offer.” Silvia likes sports and has volunteered as a coach for the Tri-Cities Girls Fastpitch Softball Association. She’s also passionate in supporting the National Brain Tumor Society and Atlas Free, a group that aims to combat global sex trafficking and exploitation. When it’s time to unwind, she is either thrifting, hanging out with family, or spending time with her recently adopted Shih Tzu-Havanese mix, Angel. Thank you, Silvia, for all you do helping advance the cleanup mission! #WeAreWRPS #WorkforceWednesday

  • Practice makes perfect! A mock-up of the Tank-Side Cesium Removal system was recently updated to improve simulations. The mock-up at the Hanford Site’s 200 East Area allows teamsters to practice installing and removing ion exchange columns, including detaching and reconnecting hoses. The replica is updated any time the actual process enclosure is modified to incorporate lessons learned during operations.

  • Champagne, brunch, and handbags were on the menu at a fundraiser last weekend benefitting Tri-Cities Chaplaincy. WRPS is a longtime supporter of The Chaplaincy, which provides hospice and grief care for our community. WRPS employees Ruth, Monica, Kris, and Kalli attended the fundraiser. Fundraiser attendees enjoyed a champagne brunch at J. Bookwalter Winery and bid on handbags and purses. The Aug. 9 event raised about $82,000.

  • Theron is Tri-Cities born-and-raised in perhaps the truest of ways, having lived in Pasco, Kennewick, Richland, and West Richland. He currently is pursuing a degree in Management Information Systems from Washington State University and interning with our Procurement organization — helping to handle audit- and cost-price analysis- related tasks. Outside of the classroom, he lives on his family’s small farm with several animals including goats, alpacas, chickens, and dogs. He enjoys outdoor recreation such as climbing, and fishing with his family and friends. “I love to go fishing and skiing the most. These activities give my mind a rest from the world and are typically done with my family. I believe this keeps us all closer and stronger together.” Thank you, Theron, for your interest in advancing the cleanup mission! #WorkforceWednesday #WeAreWRPS

  • The recent work of four students from Florida International University highlights our continuing collaboration with the school to bolster the future DOE workforce and advance the Hanford Site mission! Through the Department of Energy Fellows Program, WRPS works with students at FIU’s Applied Research Center to provide innovative solutions in waste management and nuclear facility maintenance. We’re sponsoring four exciting projects this year including: ✅Extended-reach sampling system to help collect better tank waste samples ✅Remote-controlled air monitoring vehicle ✅Sonar system to better visualize the inside of waste tanks ✅Vacuum crawler robot to clean and inspect space between primary and secondary tank walls in double-shell tanks
