    Today is the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition. This day serves as a solemn reminder of the horrors of the transatlantic slave trade and honors the resilience of those who fought for freedom and justice. The 2022 Global Estimates of Modern Slavery report published by the International Labour Organization, International Organization for Migration, and the international human rights group, Walk Free, revealed that 50 million people were living in modern slavery in 2021. Of these people, 28 million were in forced labor, and 22 million were trapped in forced marriage. This is a reminder for us to diligently combat the dehumanization and trade of people in all the forms it takes today.
