We believe there is a better way to support children and families in West Michigan! West Michigan Partnership for Children (WMPC) is a new organization created to pilot the first performance-based foster care service delivery model in Michigan with the goal of improving outcomes for children. The 2017 launch of WMPC is the result of a long-term collaboration between dedicated professionals, Kent County community leaders and partners, Michigan Child Welfare Partnership Council, and legislators. As the only private entity in Michigan to oversee a network of foster care and service providers, WMPC, in partnership with Bethany Christian Services, Catholic Charities West Michigan, D.A. Blodgett—St. John’s, Samaritas, and Wellspring Lutheran Services, through a contract with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, will work seamlessly with the public sector to improve outcomes for abused and neglected children. WMPC and its partners value keeping families together. We aim to safely and quickly reunify more children with their families and more quickly by working alongside them families to help them address the situations that led to their child’s removal. WMPC prioritizes keeping children with their families and relatives and seeks adoptive homes only when returning a child to their family is not possible. Foster parents are important partners in this process.

🎉 June is National Reunification Month! 🎉 As the month comes to a close, we are reflecting on our Kent County Reunification Celebration that we hosted at John Ball Zoo on Monday, June 17. Despite the heat advisory, we had a great turnout! Together, we celebrated with community partners, our network, families and our team recognizing successes, reaffirming our commitment to families, and our primary goal of family reunification. We heard from leaders and partners on the importance of family reunification and highlighted stories of families who overcome challenges to be reunited. Reunification is always the goal! 🥳 Thanks to many partners who helped make this event special including Kent County, Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, Wellspring Lutheran Services, Bethany Christian Services, Samaritas, D.A. Michigan Federation for Children and Families (Lansing, MI) is seeking a Manager of Community Outreach and Partnerships (REMOTE)! The Michigan child welfare system is undergoing a shift toward becoming a more equitable and prevention-focused system that prioritizes children and their caregivers remaining together in the community, avoiding the trauma of family separation experienced when children enter foster care. As such, the state and community-based agencies are working together toward the goal of implementing a pilot project initiative focused on a two-generation (2Gen) whole-family approach to support children and their families to reduce the likelihood of future instances of child abuse and neglect and move toward a system that addresses inequities and improves the stability and the health and well-being of families.
