Earlier this week, Barnes & Thornburg LLP partner David Malson presented at the Cultivating Connections Conference. The conference serves as a forum for learning and discussing the latest laws, strategies, tools, and insights necessary for effective farm transition planning across family generations. David spoke to hundreds of in-person and virtual attendees on farm transition planning tools and strategies as we approach the scheduled 2025 sunset of the higher estate and gift tax exemption.

The Michigan Supreme Court, in a 4-3 decision, ruled that the Michigan Legislature violated the Michigan Constitution when it adopted and amended the Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act and the Earned Sick Time Act ballot initiatives For Michigan employers, this means the amended minimum wage law and Michigan Paid Medical Leave Act in effect since 2019 are set to be replaced.
