July marks National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, which highlights the unique struggles that underrepresented groups face regarding mental health care access and stigma. Many in these communities struggle to access mental health services due to factors like cost, inadequate insurance and external stressors such as racial discrimination. At the Humana Foundation, we are committed to addressing the significant disparities in mental health care faced by racial and ethnic minority groups. Join us in advocating for inclusive mental health practices. #Philanthropy #HumanaFoundation

The Humana Foundation team recently huddled to speak with Humana team members and community leaders in the Florida market to learn how we can more effectively engage Florida employees and better serve the diverse communities in Florida. We then visited a "Senior Planet" facility, which is operated by our partner Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) from AARP. We learned how the new facility is serving the older adult community, and we volunteered in one-on-one tech sessions at Senior Planet to help educate seniors on using technology. We love learning more about the communities we serve and listening to the people in those communities! #Philanthropy #HumanaFoundation #TeamHumana

At the Humana Foundation, we are committed to addressing the significant disparities in mental health care faced by racial and ethnic minority groups. Join us in advocating for inclusive mental health practices. We encourage you to read this article from Dr. J. Nwando Olayiwola, MD, MPH, Chief Health Equity Officer & SVP, which calls attention to the urgent need for enhanced awareness and support to increase help and equity in minority mental health care.
Mental healthcare is healthcare, and we are raising awareness about the need for equitable access to quality mental healthcare for all our members during National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. “Minority communities often face higher rates of mental health conditions but are less likely to receive mental health treatment,” said Dr. J. Nwando Olayiwola, MD, MPH, Chief Health Equity Officer & SVP. “There is a significant need for expanded mental healthcare among all Americans, but access to timely and quality mental healthcare among minority communities in the United States is even more dire.” Learn more about how Humana has developed tailored programs and resources to meet the unique mental health needs of minority populations in Dr. Olayiwola’s latest article. #MentalHealth #MinorityHealth #HealthEquity

Our teammate Chris Robinson celebrated his two-year Humana-versary last month, and to celebrate, we wanted to highlight all the change-making work Chris does for the Humana Foundation. Chris plays a pivotal role in ensuring equity in our grant management system, making the application process fair and accessible for everyone. He also supports the Foundation’s internal and external communications efforts. And he hosts our bi-weekly Foundation Fridays radio segment exclusively on Humana Radio! Thank you, Chris for all you do in guiding us toward our mission. #TeamHumana
