After the fall of Kabul, everyday Americans all over the country raised their hands to offer their support to our Afghan allies as they found safety in the United States. The success of this model paved the way for the private sponsorship initiatives we have today. And as a result, we are more prepared to respond to the rising global displacement crisis. In June 2024, Rohan, a young Syrian man, arrived in the United States, bringing with him memories of home and an unyielding determination to build a better life in his new country. He wasn’t alone in this journey — he had a group of friends who’ve become like family, supporting him every step of the way. Rohan’s story of resilience and connection began in 2019 when he was serving as an interpreter and assistant in Lebanon and met Amine, a Lebanese-American who would become one of his closest friends and allies. Over time, Rohan found himself feeling more isolated and at risk because of his Christian faith. When Amine learned about the Welcome Corps and the possibility to sponsor someone you know, he formed a group with his wife, their friends, and two of Rohan’s American friends. In March 2024, the group applied to sponsor Rohan. Thanks to the Welcome Corps, Rohan was able to find the peace and freedom he’d been seeking, and he’s now working towards his dreams in the United States. Read their story and learn more about becoming a sponsor! ⬇️

When you become a sponsor, you'll join a group of at least five members in your community who are passionate about making a difference in a refugee's life. Together, you’ll help them settle into your community by finding and furnishing an apartment, securing a job, enrolling kids in school, and accessing essential services. We’ve seen iconic service organizations, faith institutions, veterans’ groups, diaspora communities, and everyday Americans stepping up to welcome refugees from Afghanistan, Congo, Venezuela, Colombia, and beyond. Join us every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET for an application support session ➡️ welcomecorps.org/events #WelcomeCorps

More than 90,000 everyday Americans have answered the call to welcome refugees in their communities. In small groups, private citizens have embodied America’s promise of refuge for people fleeing persecution and violence. Welcome Corps sponsors have helped new neighbors move into homes, enroll their children in school, prepare for job interviews, and start over in the U.S. In turn, sponsors have shared how the experience has changed their lives and communities for the better. Learn how you can join us as a sponsor and change a life (including your own!) by visiting WelcomeCorps.org.
