PHILADELPHIA - The MLB draft is right around the corner beginning this Sunday and running into next Tuesday. Several of the Philadelphia Phillies former draft picks have started to make noise throughout the system, they're hoping for more of that.

Assistant GM of Amateur Scouting, Brian Barber talked about the upcoming draft with the media on Wednesday.

Last year the Phillies selected Aidan Miller in the first round of the draft, and he's been impressing the scouts and coaches through the system so far.

The Phillies have built out an impressive roster through free agency to pair with players like Bohm and Stott who have worked their up through the system. Several of those veterans are locked into long term deals.

Barber discussed what going into a draft is like when your team is locked into those long term deals at the MLB level.

"You can't predict what's going to be on your big league team in three, four or five years. A lot can change in that span of time. I honestly don't see it any other way than you're trying to select, who you perceive to be, the best player in the end in every pick that you get."

The draft will kick off the All-Star break festivities.
