LCD and LED TVs use backlights shining on liquid crystals to create the picture. They can be found at all price points, but tend to be cheaper than OLEDs and QLEDs. We’ve tested some with glorious picture quality and perfect sound, but read our expert reviews to avoid a dud.

OLED TVs don’t have a backlight unlike LCD and QLED TVs, instead each colour-producing pixel in the display also creates its own light. They are exclusively high-end, and are known for their contrast, paper-thin screens and high price. so check our reviews to make sure you spend your money wisely.

QLED

QLED TVs have a backlight like LCD ones, but their displays use quantum dots as well as liquid crystals. These tiny dots are designed to up the brightness and colour vibrancy. What are my consumer rights when buying a TV?

If you've bought a new television

If you've purchased a new television from a retailer, you are covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015. This means that a product must be as described, or of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. If not, you could get your money back.

If you've bought a television second hand

You may have different rights with second hand items depending on where you bought it.
