Food recall: Tesco recalls Creamfields cheddar cheese as it may contain plastic

Affected packs of Creamfields Grated Cheddar may be unsafe to eat because of small, clear pieces of plastic

Tesco is recalling its Creamfields grated cheddar (500g) because it may contain small pieces of plastic and may therefore be unsafe to eat.

The affected products all share the same best before date of 23 March 2023.

This Tesco recall follows a similar Lidl recall of its Simply grated cheddar in November 2022, which was also caused by small pieces of plastic found in packs of grated cheese.

Why is Tesco Creamfields Grated Cheddar being recalled?

Tesco says it is recalling affected packs of grated cheese because 'it may contain small pieces of soft clear plastic making it potentially unsafe to eat'.

What should I do if I'm affected?

If you bought an affected pack of Tesco Creamfields grated cheddar (500g), the advice from Tesco is to not eat the contents.

Instead, it advises consumers to return the cheese to any Tesco store for a full refund – no receipt is needed.

It also asks that customers requiring further information call Tesco Customer Services on 0800 505 5555.

What are my rights when there's a food recall?

If you've purchased a product that's been included in a recall notice, you have the right to a refund through the Consumer Rights Act. 

The retailer that sold you the product should offer a full refund, even if it's been in your store cupboard or freezer for several months.

Provided you can show proof of purchase, such as a receipt, bank statement, or online order confirmation, you are still eligible for a refund. even if you've already consumed the product or thrown the product away.
