Like most cordless vacs, it comes with a removable handheld helper for smaller jobs and tight corners around your home.

In the box you'll find a pet tool, a crevice tool, a combination tool and a flex tool for harder-to-reach areas; there’s also a spinning sweeper with disposable wet pads for mopping hard floors, and antibacterial reusable wet pads.

Tefal X-Force 12.60 Pet & Car

  • Weighs 3.2kg

We like: Quiet

We don't like: Poor performance on minimum power

This is one of the cordless vacs from the Tefal's X-Force range aimed at car and pet owners.

It comes with a digital display, auto-cleaning mode and a handy flexible wand, which saves you from having to bend to vacuum under low furniture. It also has LED headlights that help expose hidden dirt and a motorised brush for removal of pet hair.

Crevice and sofa tools are also supplied for cleaning other areas of your home such as the stairs, the interior of your car and on furniture.

Shark Stratos IZ400UKT

Shark Stratos IZ400UKT stick vacuum
  • Bagless and cordless handstick vacuum cleaner
  • 0.9 litre dust capacity
  • Weighs 4.1kg

We like: Easy to use

We don't like: Fairly noisy

A cordless Shark vacuum cleaner aimed at pet owners. It’s equipped with Anti Hair Wrap Plus, which removes long, short and pet hair from the brush-roll as you clean, according to Shark. It also comes with Clean Sense IQ, which automatically senses the invisible dirt and adjusts cleaning power.

An illuminated indicator in the floor head shows the suction level, lighting up as the suction increases and automatically decreasing when the debris is cleared. As with most of the brand’s cordless models, it comes with an LED light in the floor head to help illuminate small particles of dust and pet hair. It also has an LED screen, which displays battery status and suction level.

In the box you’ll find a crevice tool, multi-surface tool, pet tool, accessory bag, lithium-Ion battery and a charger.

Shark IZ300UKT

Shark IZ300UKT stick vacuum
  • Bagless handstick vacuum cleaner
  • 1.1-litre dust capacity
  • Weighs 4.1kg

We like: Versatile

We don't like: Average when cleaning on minimum power

The Shark IZ300UKT cordless vacuum cleaner is specifically designed for homes with pets.

Its motorised DuoClean floor head is nothing new, but this model is enhanced with the PowerFins brush-roll, which – according to Shark – is engineered to pick up more hair. It charges relatively quickly, taking just under three hours for a full battery that lasts 47 minutes.

The LED display shows battery life, suction levels and floor-type options, and its controls let you choose between eco, deep clean and boost power modes. In the box you'll find a crevice tool, multi-surface tool, pet tool, accessory bag, Lithium-Ion battery, charger, instruction booklet and quick-start guide.

Shark NV602UKT

Shark NV602UKT corded vacuum
  • Bagless upright vacuum cleaner
  • 2.8-litre dust capacity
  • Weighs 5.9kg

We like: Quiet

We don't like: Only average on laminate floors

This corded vacuum cleaner from Shark looks a lot like its more expensive cousin, the NV702UKT, but the models have distinct floor heads. Like most Shark models, this vacuum cleaner can be used in a detachable handheld mode, which is handy for cleaning stairs and tall surfaces.

Its 8.4-metre plug socket to floor head reach is about average, but could leave you short in some scenarios – some models have power cords of up to 12 metres.

It comes with a crevice nozzle, upholstery nozzle, furniture brush and a mini-turbo tool for pet hair.

How to spot a good deal on a vacuum cleaner?

Manca Virant, Which? vacuum cleaner expert, says:

With some vacuums often on 'special offer', it can be hard to know which deals are genuine money savers. Stick to these golden rules to get the best value:

1. Don't fall for features and accessories

Some models come with impressive-sounding features. Think Flexology (a flexible cleaning tube), or Lift-Away (a removable handheld unit), or Vax's QuickClean (also a removable unit).

However, while useful, some of them aren't unique. You'll find similar features across many other brands, just with more conventional names.

So don't rush into buying a vacuum because of its features. There could be cheaper options with the same capabilities.

Models in the same range (eg the Samsung Jet range) usually have the same core machine – the only difference is the accessories and supplied floor heads.

An entry-level model typically costs about £100 less than a premium model, so you could save money if you're prepared to sacrifice some accessories. It's also worth remembering that having multiple accessories can be more of a hindrance than a help, especially when storing them, which is another reason not to splash out on a model with expensive extras unless you're sure you'll need them.

2. Check the price of similar models

Many vacs have a basic package and a more expensive pet variant, which comes with a mini-tool for cleaning up after your furry friends.

In some circumstances, you'd be better off buying the basic model and the pet tool separately.

However, always check the prices of variants, as you might find the pet version on offer for less than the basic model.

3. Check out the latest price data

If a deal seems too good to be true, you can use price comparison sites such as PriceRunner and PriceSpy to check historical price data. It's worth doing a quick Google search too, as some retailers' price feeds aren't picked up by these sites.

The data should reveal how regularly a vacuum goes on sale (if it's on 'special offer' for most of the year, the offer isn't all that special) and whether the 'before' price is accurate.

4. Shop around

If you have your eyes set on a certain model but can't find a good deal, don't worry. There are also plenty more fish in the sea – including cheaper options from alternative brands. Take a look at our Great Value vacuum cleaners and Great Value cordless vacuum cleaners.

Also see our top recommendations of the best cordless vacuums and best corded vacuums for the top bargains.

5. Don't pay to recycle your old vacuum cleaner

Some retailers will offer to recycle your old vacuum cleaner, but they usually charge a fee for doing so. Our guide on how to recycle electrical items will help you find out your options.

How to get deals on specific vacuum brands

Vacuum deals are available all year round, so if you're after a particular model or brand, you need to know where to look. Read our independent vacuum cleaner reviews or cordless vacuum reviews to ensure you get the best deal.

Dyson vacuum deals

Based on historical pricing data, we think these prices represent genuinely good savings on some of Dyson's most popular cordless models:

  • Dyson Gen5detect Cordless  anything less than £699
  • Dyson V15 Detect Absolute – anything less than £550 (£499 for the Animal model)
  • Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute – anything less than £449
  • Dyson Outsize Absolute – anything less than £699
  • Dyson V11 Absolute – anything less than £599 (£499 for the Animal model)
  • Dyson Cyclone V10Absolute – anything less than £399 (£349 for the Animal model)
  • Dyson V8 Animal – anything less than £329
  • Dyson V7 Animal – anything less than £249

We've noticed that Dyson prices can rise in the months before big sales events such as Black Friday.

Shark vacuum deals

Based on historical data, we think these prices represent genuinely good savings on some of Shark's most popular models:

  • Shark HZ3000UKT – anything under £249
  • Shark IZ300UK – anything under £299
  • Shark ICZ160UK – anything under £299
  • Shark IZ201UK – anything under £249
  • Shark NV702UK – anything under £189
  • Shark NV602UK – anything under £169
  • Shark HZ500UK – anything under £179

Also keep in mind that cordless Sharks are sold with one, two or sometimes even three batteries.

If you opt for a package with extra batteries, you can prolong your vacuum's running time and won't have to worry about buying a new battery if one eventually stops working.

You can buy spare batteries from the Shark website for around £70, so the deal only makes sense if the package is a similar price to the single-battery model.

If you live in a smaller property, you probably don't need extra batteries, as a single charge will last long enough to vacuum your home in one go. Any battery faults should be covered by the manufacturer's guarantee for the first two years.

Samsung, Miele, Vax and other vacuum deals

If you're looking to replace your old Samsung with a new model, don't forget to check the Samsung website for trade-in deals for your old appliance. They'll take your old vacuum, price it and then you'll be able to put the money towards a new model.

We've noticed that prices can rise in the months before big sales events such as Black Friday, Christmas sales or Cyber Monday, creating the illusion of huge savings on the day. Always check PriceRunner oder PriceSpy to compare historical prices to find out of the model you're after is actually being sold at a low price.
